GAME APPARATUS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 18, 1911.
Application filed December 6, 1910. Serial No. 595,885.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MICHAEL F. SHEA, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Newport, in the county of Newport and State of Ithode Island, have invented a new and Improved Game Apparatus, of which the following is a full, clear, and eXact description.
The invention relates to games and has for an object to provide a device to be used as a counter or indicator either alone or in combination with other games of chance or hazard. For the purpose mentioned use is made of a shell provided with a series of designating characters and a disk mounted to revolve in the shell when the shell is gyrated, the said disk having thereon an indicating pointer.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, constituting a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference denote corresponding parts in all the views and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view; Fig. 2 is a sectional view on the line 22 in Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a modified form of my device and Fig. 1 is a sectional view taken on the line 14 in Fig. 3.
Referring more particularly to the views, I employ a circular shell 10 consisting of sides 11 and 12 and an integral peripherally extending edge portion 13. A centrally disposed opening is provided in the side 11 of the shell. and the surface of the said side is divided into spaces 14 having numbers 15.
therein. A disk 16 is provided in the shell 10 and is preferably made larger than the opening in the side 11 so that it cannot be taken from the interior of the shell or fall out therefrom. An arrow or suitable indicating pointer 17 is provided on the side of the disk 16, that is adjacent the opening in the side 11 of the shell 10.
In use, the shell is grasped in the hand and gyrated thus imparting motion to the disk 16 in the shell. As will be readily understood when the gyrating movement is discontinued the pointer 17 will point to a certain number 15 on the side 11 of the shell 1.0 and in this manner games of chance can be played or the device can be employed in combination with other games of chance.
In Figs. 3 and 4 I disclose a modified form of my device. A shell 20 having transparent sides 21, 22 and an intermediate connecting member 23, has thereon a permanently fixed pointer 24. Disposed in the shell 20 is a disk 25 having integral outwardly extending circular flanges 26 and provided with spaces 27 having therein numbers 28. The flanges 20 are provided to prevent the numbers 28 being rubbed off or obliterated from the disk when the same is revolved in the shell 20 and the said flanges substantially constitute buffers. The operation of my modified form is the same as my preferred form the primary difference in construction being the numbers 28 marked on the disk 25 with the pointer 24 on the shell 20, instead of the numbers on the shell 10 and the pointer on the disk 16 as previously described and shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
My game apparatus is preferably constructed of rubber or celluloid although it will be understood that I do not limit myself to the material employed in the construction of the apparatus.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. A game apparatus comprising a shell provided with a series of designating characters, and a disk loosely inclosed by the shell and provided with an indicating pointer.
2. A game apparatus comprising a shell provided with a central opening and having a series of designating characters thereon and a disk loosely inclosed by the shell, and having an indicating pointer thereon.
3. A game apparatus comprising a hollow shell, and a disk loosely inclosed by the shell, the interior of said casing being exposed to view, and the said disk and easing having characters marked thereon for indicating the relative position of the disk within the casing.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
MICHAEL F. SHEA.
Witnesses HENRY I. VAYRo, HENRY M. MCGRATH.
