To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, AMALIA L. CONNELLY, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clothes-Sprinklers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.

This invention relates to clothes sprinklers, and the primary object of the invention is to provide a simple and inexpensive device that can be easily attached to a suitable water supply, whereby clothes can be easily and quickly sprinkled or moistened.

Another object of the invention is to provide a device of the above type for equally distributing water upon clothes to dampen or moisten the same.

A further object of the invention is to accomplish the above results by a device that is durable, free from injury by ordinary use, and efiicient as a household article.

These and such other objects as may hereinafter appear are attained by a mechanical construction that will be presently described in detail and then claimed.

Reference will now be had to the drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a perspective view of the clothes sprinkling device, Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional View of the same, Fig. 3 is a cross sectional view of the device, and Fig. 4 is a longitudinal sectional view of a portion of a modified form of device.

A device in accordance with this invention comprises an irregularly shaped head 1, triangular in cross section, and in the lower longitudinal portion of said head is located an irregularly curved tube 2 having one end thereof protruding from the rear end of the head 1 and provided with a handle 3 abutting against said head. The tube 2 is in parallelism with the lower edge of the head 1 and is provided with a plurality of equally spaced openings 4 registering with similar openings 5 in the lower edge of the head 1.

The tube 2 protrudes from the end of the handle 3 and is provided with a plurality of equally spaced annular grooves 4 providing an interrupted surface upon the rear end of the tube 2 to receive and frictionally hold the end of a hose 5 or flexible conduit, which has the opposite end thereof enlarged, as at 6 whereby it can be mounted upon the end of a spigot, faucet or water supply pipe. The hose 5 at a point in proximity to the handle 3 is provided with the ordinary and well known type of shut-off clip 7 adapted to compress the hose 5 to the extent of preventing water from flowing through the same. This shutoff clip is employed whereby it will be unnecessary to shut off the supply of water when a cessation in the operation of the sprinkling device is desired. The tube 2 at a point adjacent to the rear end of the head 1 is reduced in its diameter, as at 8 whereby water passing through the same will be projected with considerable force into the outer end of the tube.

In Fig. 4 of the drawing there is illustrated a modification of the invention, wherein the head 1 is provided with a rearward extension 9 in communication with the bore 10 of said head, and upon this extension is fitted the handle 3. Adjacent to the extension the head 1 is provided with a gateway 11 for a gate 12 adapted to shut off the supply of water to the forward end of the head. 1. The gate 12 is loosely connected by a pin 13 to the slotted bifurcated end 14 of a lever 15 pivotally mounted between lugs 16, carried by the head 1. By pressing upon the lever 15, the gate 12 can be elevated to allow water to enter the forward end of the head 1.

In manufacturing the device, it is preferable to cast the metallic head 1 around the irregularly curved tube 2, while in the modified form of construction, a core is provided to produce the bore 10. By reference to this modification it will be observed that the rear end of the bore has an annular rib 17 adapted to increase the pressure of the water en tering the bore 10, said rib serving func-' tionally the same purpose as the reduced portion 8 of the tube 2.

In making the head 1 irregular in contour, the outermost openings 4 and 5 of the head 1 and the tube 2 respectively project water at diflerent angles from the openings adjacent to the rear end of the head 1, thereby causing a wide distribution of water which facilitates the sprinkling of large pieces of fabric.

I attach considerable importance to the fact that the sprinkling head can be utilized in connection with a constant supply of water, thereby eliminating the use of specially designed sprinkling receptacles, the necessity of gathering water for sprinkling purposes, and the time and labor heretofore consumed in sprinkling clothes by hand.

What I claim is p A sprinkling device comprising an irregularly shaped head, an irregularly shaped tube arranged in said head and protruding from the rear end thereof, a handle mounted upon the rear end of said tube, a hose in communication therewith and adapted to supply water to the forward end of said tube, said tube having openings formed therein, said head having openings formed therein in communication with the openings openings at the rear end thereof, and means in connection with said device for controlling the supply of water to said head, substantially as described.
