WILLIAM C. BRIDGES,
OF WAPELLO, IOWA.
SINGLE-DELIVERY DISPENSING-RECEPTACLE.
To (ZZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, VILLIAM C. BRIDGES, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Wapello, in the county of Louisa and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Single- Delivery Dispensing-Receptacles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to stands for delivering matches, drinking straws and the like one at a time, and the principal object of the same is to provide a strictly sanitary device of the character stated in which the articles are kept in a receptacle and deliv-' ered one at a time by pressure applied to the receptacle.
The improved single delivering device is equally adapted for delivering straws and the like or matches, and in the latter event the article holding receptacle is provided with a cutting blade that travels across a holding opening provided in one of the ejectors so that when a cigar is. in said opening, the tip thereof will be clipped by said blade.
In carrying out the objects of the invention generally stated above it will be understood, of course, that the essential features. thereof are necessarily susceptible 0 changes in details and structural arrange ments, one preferred and practical embodiment of which is shown in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improved stand. Fig. 2 is a view in rear elevation. Fig. 8 is a central vertical sectional view thereof taken on the line 3-3, Fig. 2. Fig. 4: is a fragmentary detail perspective view of one of the ejectors. Fig. 5 is a detail perspective view of the blade of the tip cutter.
Referring to the accompanying drawings by numerals, it will be seen that the improved stand comprises a substantially cross-shaped flat base 1 which carries the two spaced parallel standards 2 which pass through the guide collars 3 carried by the ends of a receptacle 4 The collars 3 are preferably formed of strips of fiat metal, having their intermediate portions bent into semi-cylindrical shape and through which the standards 2 pass, and the flattened outwardly projecting ends are riveted or otherwise rigidly fastened to the end of the re- Specification of Letters Patent.

Serial No. 579,307.
The receptacle 4 is provided with flat sur- 1 faces for the reception of advertisements, ornaments, or the like and has a hoppershaped bottom 6 provided with a base slot 6 Covers 7 are provided for the receptacle 4:, said covers having their rear portions hinged to the upper portions of said receptacle. The rear ends of said covers are in the form of abutments 7 which contact with the inner surfaces of the front and rear of the receptacle 4 and retain the covers rela tively inclined when closed with their free upper edges in spaced relation to provide a dispensing slot 8. The upper surfaces of said covers 7 are equipped with grooves 7 which are parallel with the hinged portions thereof and provide seats or rests for the reception of the upper edges of the sides of the receptacle 4 so that the covers will rest firmly on said edges when opened and thereby permit free access to the receptacle 4: for filling or other purposes. The base slot 6" is provided with reinforcing and guiding pendent flanges 9 through which the ejectors 10 are slidable. Said ejectors are vertically arranged and in spaced relation to provide a guide slot 11 therebetween. The ejectors are of slightly less width than the slot 6 so that they can freely pass therethrough and are provided with end grooves 12 which'receive an article from the receptacle and project the same through the slot 8 when the receptacle 4 is pushed downward on the standards 2.
A spring 18 preferably of a W-shape projects through the slot between the ejectors l0 and has one end fastened to the receptacle 4 and the other end fastened to the base 1. Said spring opposes the downward movement of receptacle f and when the pressure is removed from said receptacle, automatically returns the same to the upper portion of standards 2.
It will be seen from the foregoing that this invention provides simple means whereby articles can be dispensed one at a time from the receptacle 4, the said receptacle automatically returning to a position to eject another article after the first article has been dispensed.
The improved dispensing stand is of especial value as a match dispenser and to add to the utility of the same for use by smokers, one of the ejectors 10 is provided with a transverse opening 14 that is preferably conical in shape and is used for holding cigars that are to have their tips clipped. The flange 9 of the receptacle 4 is provided With a pendent cutting blade 15 that travels across the rear end of said opening 14 to clip cigar tips. The base 1 is provided With a concavity 16 into Which the cigar tips fall.
With this structure it will be seen that the movement of the receptacle 4 to dispense a match simultaneously performs the tip clipping operation on a cigar.
What I claim is A dispensing apparatus comprising a base, standards carried thereby, a receptacle slidable thereon and provided With a base slot, an ejector carried by said base and projecting through said slot, covers hinged to opposite portions of said receptacle and provided with means for engaging the sides of the receptacle to retain the covers when closed with their free ends in spaced relation to provide a dispensing slot, and with- WILLIAM G.
