To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ALBERT S. GoRNTo, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Norfolk, in the county of Norfolk and State of Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shade- FiXt-ures, of which the following is a full and clear specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a front elevation of a window provided with my improved shade fixture; Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof with the shade roller in transverse section; Fig. 3 a plan view showing the coupling of the connecting rod or bar in horizontal section; and Fig. 4 a detail perspective view of one of the shade roller brackets.

The object of this invention is to provide a simple way of mounting the shade roller so that it may be bodily raised and lowered so that the shade may be so adjusted as to promote ventilation and to permit light to enter the room above the shade as well as below it, as more fully hereinafter set forth.

In the drawing a designates a shade roller of the ordinary sort mounted in the usual manner in the shade brackets 6, these brackets being mounted to slide vertically in guide ways 0 fastened to the window frame, one at each side of the window.

Pivotally connected to each of these brack ets is a depending rod d whose lower end is bent at right angles to form a pin 6, which pin is adapted to enter any one of a vertical series of holes f formed in a plate fastened to the face of the window frame. The pivots connecting the rods (Z to the shade brackets are formed by bending the upper ends of the rods inwardly and passing them through holes 9 in the brackets, so that the pivots shall be horizontal and in a direction transverse to the window, where-. by the rods 0? may be swung outwardly away from the window as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2.

The shade brackets are connected together across the window frame in any suitable manner, preferably by confiecting the inwardly bent ends of the rods cl together by a cross rod h, which is virtually an extension of the two vertical rods (Z. This rod h is preferably divided at its middle and connected together by a screw coupling or turn buckle i so that the rod may be properly adjusted as to length and so that the two end sections of the rod may be passed through the holes in the shade brackets and then coupled up.

It will be observed that with the above described construction, the shade roller may be raised and lowered by simply detaching the lower ends of the manipulating rods d from the lock holes 7, and then the rods d will serve as a ready means for positioning the shade roller, the capacity of these rods to be swung away from the window frame serving to enable the operator to stand away from the window and readily and evenly raise or lower the shade roller to the point desired. It will be observed that the operator may take one of these rods (Z in each hand, and this fact together with the fact that the shade brackets are connected together across the window will enable the operator to shift the shade up and down without causing the roller brackets to bind in their slides.

I prefer to construct the guide way a in the manner shown, that is, form it of a strip of sheet metal bent upon itself to form a channel j opening inwardly, the bottom wall of this channel being bent abruptly outwardly to form a flange 7a which bears against the inner side of the adjacent shade bracket 6 and forms a guide and support for the same, the shade brackets 6 being provided with a foot piece Z adapted to fit and slide in the channel 7'.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
