IMPROVED BELT-TIGHTENER.

The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of tile sama.

To all whom 'it may concern Be it known that we, M. G..OHAMBERL1'N and A. GLAWSON, of Plain View, in the county of Wabashaw, and in the 'State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Belt-Tightener and Regulator; and do hereby declarethat the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters ofreference marked thereon, making apart of this specification.

l handle, H, by which the bar is mov'ed back and forth.

' Upon the rod G there is placed a pulley, K, which revolves fieely around the rod, and which is moved by the-bar D against the side of the belt, in such a manner as to tighten it, in case it should have become loose and slack. v

Over the rod there are slipped one or two collars, L, which are keyed on, and which are used to secure the pulley at any desired place on the rod.

Ihe lower end of the bar D passes under the circular slotted plate M, which regulates the distance which .the bar is to be. moved back and forth, and which is Y provided with a screw, N, so as to secure in at any desired point.

During damp weather, belts are always liableio stretch and give, in such a manner that it is ditiicult to make them perform the usual service, unless vtheyV are taken ofi' and shortened. By this device, the belts can be regulated or tightened to any required degree,

in a moments time, and with little or no trouble.

Having thus described our invention,

What we claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patv 1. The curved bar VD, provided with the knob or handle'H and rod G, when used substantially as shown.

2. The collars L, when used to secure the pulley K at any desired point on the bar G, substantially as set forth.

3. The arrangement of theA curved bar D, rod G,

pulley K, collars L L, handle H, curved aud slotted plate M, and screw N all substantially as shown and l described.
