  • This invention relates to means for pivotally supporting the treadles of sewing machines and the like, and has for its object to provide a simple and efficient structural formation and combination of parts whereby the treadle is pivotally attached to the usual stationary supporting rod in a manner which prevents independent longitudinal movement between the parts, while affording a nearly frictionless pivotal movement between the same, all as will hereinafter more fully appear.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDMoND VALLETTE, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of Kankakee, in the county of Kankakee and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Treadles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to means for pivotally supporting the treadles of sewing machines and the like, and has for its object to provide a simple and efficient structural formation and combination of parts whereby the treadle is pivotally attached to the usual stationary supporting rod in a manner which prevents independent longitudinal movement between the parts, while affording a nearly frictionless pivotal movement between the same, all as will hereinafter more fully appear.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1, is a detail longitudinal sectional elevation of a treadle mount embodying the present improvement. Figs. 2 and 3, are detail transverse sections of the same, on lines .fo-x and oc-m, respectively, Fig. l.
Similar reference numerals indicate like parts in the different views.
Referring to the drawings, l represents portions of the side standards of a sewing machine or the like, and 2 a stationary horizontal rod extending between and connected to said standards as usual in sewing machine stands and the like.
3 is the treadle, which in the present improvement is provided near each end with downward projections 4, recessed on their under sides to receive pairs of rollers 5, which are journaled in a longitudinal direction in said recesses and have separated relation so that upon assembling the parts said rollers will straddle the stationary supporting rod 2 and provide frictionless bearings thereon for the treadle.
6 is a depending bracket arranged at the midlength of the treadle 3 and having a vertically orificed lower arm 7 as shown.
8 is a vertically sliding block having vertical adjustment in the orifice of the aforesaid arm 7 of the bracket 6, and said block carries at its upper end a revoluble wheel or roller 9 adapted for engagement in a central annular depression 10 in the supporting rod 2, for the twofold purpose of affording a frictionless bearing against the under side of said rod to prevent independent upward movement of the treadle, and by contact with the end walls of the annular depression l0, prevent any independent longitudinal movement of said treadle along its supporting rod 2.
l1 is a vertical screw having movement in a corresponding orifice in the horizontal bracket arm 7 aforesaid, in adjacent relation to the vertically adjustable block 8. Said screw carries at its lower end an enlarged head 12, the margin of which has bearing beneath the aforesaid block 8, so that with an adjustment of said screw a corresponding adjustment of said block will be attained.
Having thus fully described my said invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
l. In a treadle mount, the combination of a stationary supporting rod, a treadle, pairs of longitudinal rollers journaled on the treadle near its ends and adapted to bear upon said rod, and means centrally of the treadle for preventing independent upward movement of the same, substantially as set forth.
2. In a treadle mount, the combination of a stationary supporting rod, a treadle, pairs of longitudinal rollers journaled on the treadle near its ends and adapted to bear upon said rod, and means centrally of the treadle for prevent-ing independent upward movement of the same, comprising a central bracket depending from the treadle and provided with a horizontal arm, and a wheel j ournaled on said arm and adapted for bearing against the underside of the supporting rod, said rod having a central depression in which said wheel bears, substantially as set forth.
3. In a treadle mount, the combination of a stationary supporting rod, a treadle, pairs of longitudinal rollers j ournaled on the treadle near its ends and adapted to bear upon said rod, and means centrally of the treadle for preventing independent upward movement of the same, comprising a central bracket depending from the treadle and provided with a horizontal arm, a block guided vertically in said arm, a wheel on the upper end of said arm and having bearing against the under side of the supporting rod, said rod having a central depression in which said wheel bears, and means for effecting a vertical adjustment of said block, substantially as set forth.
4c. In a treadle mount, the combination of a stationary supporting rod, a treadle, pairs of longitudinal rollers journaled on the treadle near its ends and adapted to bear upon said rod, and means centrally of the treadle for preventing independent upward movement of the same, comprising a central bracket depending from the treadle and provided with a horizontal arm, a block guided vertically in said arm, a Wheel carried by said arm and having bearing against the underside of the supporting rod, said supporting rod having a central depression in which said Wheel bears, and a screw arranged in the treadle at one side of said block and having a head at its lower end engaging beneath said block, substantially as set forth.
