Application filed February 19, 1910. Serial No. 544,934.
the burning of a combustible strip with which the device is provided.
With this and other objects in View as will more fully appear as the' description proceeds, the invention consists in certain constructions, arrangements and combinations of the parts that I shall hereinafter fully describe and claim.
For a full understanding of the invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in Which:
Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view of one embodiment of my invention; Fig.- 2 is a transverse sectional view thereof, the section being taken approximately on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of one of the caps and its clip, the parts being shown detached and in juxtaposition to each other; Fig. 4 is a fragmentary longitiidinal section of a modification; and Fig. 5 is a detail perspective view of some of the parts of the modified form.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.
In that form of my invention which is illustrated in Fig. 1, the numeral 1 designates the tubular and cylindrical body portion ofthe fuse holder, the same being constructed preferably of fiber and lined with asbestos. 2 desi applied to the ends of the body portion 1', being secured thereon in any desired way, as for instance by frictional engagement, each of said caps containing a clip which is secured thereto. In" this form of the device, each clip comprises arelatively station ary'j aw 3 which is secured on or formed with a stem 4 which projects inwardly from the inner wall of the cap and which is secured thereto, and a relatively movable jaw ates the caps which are 5 which is pivotally connected intermediate of its ends on one end of a laterally extending post 6 with which the shank or stem 4: is formed. The jaw 5 is angular, as shown,
vits rear end 7 being spaced from the'shank 4i so that an expansion spring 8 may be inserted between the rear end of said jaw and the shank to insert a tension upon the jaws to hold them closed upon the fuse 9 whichis inserted therebetween.
It is to be particularly noted that the body l I portion 1 of the fuse holder is formed-with .an opening section or lid 1 which in the present instance is hinged along one longitudinal edge, as indicated at .10, by a strip of cloth, or the like, the margin of the opening which the lid 1 is designed to close, being defined by fiber or similar strips 11 which project therein so as to be overlapped by the lid in closed position of the latter and thereby secure a tight joint. Preferably, the lid l is formed with any desired construction of snap or latch by which it may be held in closed position. It is also to be particularly noted that not only does the lid 1 provide for obtaining easy access to the interior of the body portion 1, but that it is formed with a slot 12 in which a combustible strip 13 of paper or the like is mounted, the inner end of the strip projecting substantially radially, as. shown. This strip constitutes a signal so that when the fuse is blown, the fact will be indicated by the burning of the strip.
, It is to be understood that my invention is not limited to the form of clip illustrated in Fig. 3. For instance, as illustrated in Fig. 4, I may use a simpler form of socket designated 14:, embodying two integrally formed spring jaws between which the ends of the fuse are wedged. In all other respects, this embodiment of the invention is substantially like that first described, with the lid or closure and the indicating strip connected thereto.
pressed jaws v5, the caps are formed with apertures 15 registering with the rear ends of the pivoted jaws so that a pin or the like may be inserted through said apertures to open the jaws.
Having thus described is claimed as new is:
1. A fuse holder comprising a body portion and clips mounted therein, the body portion being formed with a side opening and a lid adapted to close and uncover said opening whereby to obtain access to the fuse,
the lid being formed with a slot, and a comthe invention, what bustible indicating strip secured in said slot and projecting partly within and partly on the outside of the holder.
2. A fuse holder, comprising a body por tion, caps detaehably connected to the ends thereof, shanks secured to and extending inwardly from the ends of the respective caps the shanks being formed at their inner ends with jaws, and intermediate of their ends with laterally extending posts, angular jaws pivotally mounted intermediate 01'' their ends on the ends of the respective posts-and coacting at their inner ends with the first named jaws, and springs interposed between the rear ends of the second named jaws and the shanks, the caps and body portion being formed with apertures registering with the rear ends of the second named jaws, for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I atiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
