CHAIN-GRATE.
assess.
Specitcation of `Letters. Patent.
Application filed September 26, 1910. Serial No. 583,895.
To all whom 'it may concern.'
-Be it known that I, ROBERT KLicriiE, a subject of the German Emperor, and residing atl Blasewitz, near Dresden, Germany, have invented cert-ain new and useful Iniproveniente in Chain-Grates, of which the following is a specification.
The subject-matter of my invention is a chain grate comprising box-like grate bar frames having tire bars pushed laterally The openings in the bottoms of each frame can be closed and opened by a. perforated damper plate in siich manner that, according to the position'of an adjustable gui'de rail into which a guide pinof each damper plate extends, the positionsof the damper plates and the admission `of air are regulated. The guide rail consists'of a front and a rear portion which are pivot-ally connected together and are also pivotally supported at their oiitei' ends. In this manner I arrange that the supply of air can be changed from one part of the grate to another and regulated to varying extents on the front, central and rear parts of the grate.
Owing to the improved constructional forni interruptions in working are prevented because, in contradistinction to former ar-v are not heated and ash falling through the tire bars into the box-like frames and carried along with the grate when the air is sluit ott' falls out of the frames when the latter leave the guide rail, because the damper plates are opened automatically at the bend in the guide rail and open the openings in the grate-bar frames, so that the grate is cooled again.
-One illustrative embodiment of my invention is represented by way of example in the accompanying drawing, wherein:-`
Figure 1 is a. vertical longitudinal section according to the bent line A l in Fig. 2 showing the frontportion of the grate, Fig. 2 a` vertical transverse section through part ofthe gra-tc, Fig. a vertical section according to the line C-D in Fig. yl, Fig'. Je avsection taken on the lines lldF .in Fig. 3 and (li-ll in Fig. 5, while Fig. is a plan of tho' Figs. 3 to 6 being on an enlarged scale.
Referring to the drawing, my chain grate consists substantially of chains o carrying the box-like, grate-bail frames having openings a in their bottoms which can be closed by the perforated damper plates (l. These plates are located between the lire bars o and the bottoms of the frames. The ends of the lire bars rest on the vertical sides-of the frames. damper plates (l can be pushed over the openings a and partially or entirely close the saine, according -to the posit-ion of the regulating or guide rail f. The latter is arranged below the frames and comprises two parallel vertierl guides connected at their ends, as clearly shown in Fig. 5. Slots g through which pins h pass are provided in the ends of the rail f, and each damper plate carries a pin c gil-idedby the rail. The guide rail comprises `two parts able to rock about the pins i. These parts are pivotally connected `by apivot 0 at about,-
the center of the grate vin such manner Athat in their end positions they form a bend, but
'the vertical guides tit one another so well that the pins c are guided at the bend.
I ln the position of the grate shown in Fig. 5 thc openings in the front frame are open and are gradually more and .more closed up to the center of the grate.' Froin here to the rear end the closure is more perfect, the
small vslots 2'. in the. bottonis of the frames for allowing the pins c toslide being let't open. The two parts of the rail are positively connccted with a slide n by a cross bar /i' which carries at its exterior end a vertical pin I projecting into the slot 'In in the slide, so that when the slide 'ny is moved to and fro the pin Z slides in the slaiiting slot w1. and rceiprocates the cross bar Z.' and consequently bends the parts of the rail connected with it.
A stronger or weaker draft can be obtained as desired by moving the rail In the position shown in Fig. the damper plates from the front of the grate to the bend iii the rail, thatv is, about up to the the guide rail, and Fig. 6 is a plan view ot the grate the openings (I are gradually The ridge-shaped bars of thelr 4closed. The rear end of the guide rail f has a bend, Whose purpose is to open the damper plates' as they leave the rail and thereby to eject the ash through the openings a.
I e1airn:-, -In'e hain grate, the combination, With chains, of aplurlity of box-like, grate-bar frames having openings in the bottoms thereof carried by the chains, grate bars in each frame, a perforated damper plete in each frame between the grate bars and openings therein .for controlling the4 openlngs, Aa two-part gulde rail having a bent rear end
