ELECTRIC FOOT-WARMER.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented June 13, 1911.
Application filed March 28, 1910. Serial No. 552,108.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SILAs BALLARD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Temple, in the county of Bell and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Electric Footanners; and I do declare thefollowing to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in electric footwarmer's. Its object is to provide a. simple and practical device of this character which may not only be used. in and out of, bed to warm the feet or other portion of the body but also used as a light reflector for treating certain diseases by strong rays of light concentrated and applied directly to the body.
With the above and other objects in View the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l. is side view of a foot warmer constructed in accOrdanCe with the invention; and F ig. 2 a longitudinal section through the same.
My improved foot warmer comprises a hollow egg-shaped body divided transversely adjacent its large end to form a body section 1 and a cap section 2. These two sections are each composed of inner and outer walls between which is arranged a filling or packing 3 of asbestos. The two similarly shaped inner and outer walls 1 of the body section l have their small ends unitedby a-longitudinally extending centrally arranged cylindrical sleeve- 1" which latter is adapted to receive the socket member at of an electric light bulb 5, see Fig. 2. The outer ends of the inner and outer walls of the body section 1 are united by an annular rim 1 on which latter is formed an annular flange 1. The similarly shaped spaced Walls 2 of the cap section 2 are united by a rim portion 2", on
which latter is formed an annular flange 2. This flange is internally screw threaded; to engage external screw threads on the flange 1 and the parts are so shaped that the outer surface of the device will be smooth when the cap section 2 is applied to the body section 1.
'The inner surface of the inner wall of the body 1 is highly polished or provided with a reflecting surface so that when the cap section 2 is removed from the body 1 the latter may be employed-for treating diseases by concentrating rays of light which are thrown out of the open end of the body portion directly on to the affected parts.
I claim:
The herein described electric foot warmer comprising a hollow egg shaped body divided transversely adjacent its large end to form a body section and a cap section, both of said sections being composed of similarly shaped spaced walls of rigid material, an asbestos filling between the spaced walls of the body section, a cylindrical sleeve at the small end of the body section and forming an opening to receive a lamp socket, a rim uniting the spaced rigid walls of the body section at its large end and forming ancxternally screw-threaded flange, a rim uniting the spaced rigid walls of the cap section at its iarge end and forming an internally screw threaded flange to engage the first named flange whereby the cap section is detaehabl y secured to the body section, a lamp socket in the sleeve at the small end of the body section, and an electric lamp in said socket, the inner surface of the body section being polished to reflect the light from the lamp out of the large end of the body section when the cap section is removed.
