SECRET POCKET.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 13, 1911.
Application filed August 6, 1910. Serial No. 575,909.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRIS-Rooms, a citizen of the United States, residing at Albany, in the'county of Albany and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Secret Pockets, of whiel the following is a specification.
My invention relates to pockets in garments and the object of my invention is to provide a secret inside coat pocket in which valuable papers or money may be carried without danger of the same being lost or extracted without the knowledge of the wearer. I accomplish this purpose by means of a pocket made as shown in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side view of my secret pocket with parts broken away. Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the same on lines XX, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section on lines YY, Fig. 1. Fig. 4; shows a modified form of my pocket.
Similar letters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
Referring to the drawings, A represents the lining of the coat.
A represents the opening to the ordinary inside breast pocket.
B represents the front lining of the pocket and 0 represents the rear lining of the pocket.
D represents the ordinary pocket.
E is a lapel at the rear of the ordinary pocket near the top and is fastened down to the rear lining G by the buttons F, F. Under the lapel E is an opening to a secondary pocket G. The secondary pocket G is located behind the ordinary pocket D.
H is a third pocket at the side of the secondary pocket and extending around under the armof the coat. The third pocket H lies partly under the arm and is formed by the lining O and is held in place by the buttons JJ and the farther lapel K, secured by the button L.
The use of my pocket would be as follows: The first pocket is reached through the opening A, the same as is usual in ordinary coats. If the wearer desires to place anything in the secret pocket it is first placed through the opening A and then the buttons F, F are unfastened and the lapel E is raised and the entrance is obtained to the secret pocket G and if greater secrecy is required, the lapel K is raised by unfastonin the buttons L and by unfastening the buttons J, J and in that way the entrance is obtained to the farthest recess of the secret pocket, or what I have described as the third pocket.
Instead of having the lapel E horizontal under the opening A of the pocket, the opening to the secondary pocket may be made vertical, as shown in Fig. 4, and entrance to the secret pocket Gr obtained in that way and the farther entrance to the third pocket obtained as above described. Constructed in this way, the user may safely carry money or valuables in the farther recess of the secret pocket and the same would not be readily discovered and is substantially covered and protected by the arm of the wearer, and if a pickpocket should attempt to gain access thereto he would be discovered by the wearer before he could gain access to the secret pocket by the undoing of the various fastenings, even if he did not fail to discover them.
That I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is,
In a coat, an inside pocket, an opening in the lining of said pocket, a pocket behind said pocket, a covering over said opening,
means for fastening said covering over said opening, an opening from said pocket to an inner pocket, an inner pocket back of said second named pocket and located substantially at one side of the other pockets, a covering over said last named opening, means for fastening said covering; over said opening, thereby concealing said opening and forming a secret pocket, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I aifix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HARRIS ROGERS.
Witnesses:
JOHN W. BURROWS, WALTER E. WARD.
