Be it known that I, HEDWIG RIEOKE, geb. SoH'rzE, a subject of the King of Prussia, German Emperor, residing atI Elmen-Salze, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pedals for Sewing- Machines, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to the peda of sewing machines the construction of which is improved in such a manner that the'foot plate of the pedal oan be raised so that the pedal forms a foot stool.
In the accompanying drawings the improved peda of a sewing machine is shown.
Figure 1 represents in plan View the meohanism for transforming the peda into a foot-stool. Fig. 2 shows in side elevation the peda transformed into a foot-stool.
The improved peda is construoted as followsz-The peda is composed of the foot plate d, of the supporting frame c pivotally mounted by means of the pivots b in the feet a of the machine frame, and of the means for transforming the peda into a foot-stool. The foot plate (Z is connected with the supporting frame c by means of the levers e which are each composed of a horizontal arm pivotaly mounted in suitable bearings of the supportlng frame and of two arms perpendioular to said horizontal arm and having their ends bent outward at right angles. Upon each of said outwardly bent ends a roller is mounted and said rollers engage each with a longitudinal slot of the foot plate d (Fig. 2). Strong Springs f wound around the horizontal parts of the levers o serve for lifting the perpendicular arms of said levers into the upright position whereby the foot plate d would be lifted so that the peda can serve as a foot stool. The foot plate d is retained upon the supporting frame o in the position where it forms a peda, that is the normal position, by a looking hook k fixed upon a revoluble axle and maintained in the looking position by means of a spiral spring. Said looking hook lc grips over a stud or pin g projecting from the foot plate d. A foot lever h fixed upon the front end of the axle of the looking hook serves for turning said axle in the direotion opposed at the action of the spring, whereby the looking hook is pulled away from the stud g releasing thus the foot plate d which under the action of VserVe as a foot stool.

I claim 1. An improved peda for sewing machines adapted to be used as foot-stool, comprisng in combination with the frame of the machine, a supporting frame pivotally mounted in the machine frame, the movable foot-plate mounted upon said supporting frame, means for lifting said foot-plate off said supporting frame so that it forms a foot-stool, means for seouring the foot plate in lowered position and means for bringing said foot plate from the lifted to the lowered position, sub-stantially as described and shown and for the purpose set forth.

An improved peda for sewing machines oomprising in combination with the frame of the machine, a supporting frame pivotally mounted in the machine frame, the foot plate having longitudinal slots, the means for lifting said foot plate off said supporting frame oonsisting of levers composed of a horizontal part revolubly mounted in said supporting frame and of two arms standing perpendicular to said horizontal part, the ends of said arms bent outward at right angles, rollers upon said bent ends engaging with the longitudinal guide slots of the foot plate, and strong Springs wound around said horizontal parts of the levers and aoting with their free ends upon the arms of the levers to lift the same to the upright position, means for securing the foot plate in lowered position and a foot lever fiXed upon the front end. of the horizontal part of one of the lifting levers for bringing the foot plate back to the lowered position, substantially as described and shown and for the purpose set forth.

An improved pedal for sewing machines comprising in combination with the frame of the machine, a supporting frame pivotally mounted in the machine frame, the foot plate, a stud projeoting from the front side of said foot plate, means for lifting said foot plate off said supporting frame, means for bringing said foot plate from the lifted to the lowered position and means for seouring the foot plate in the lowered positon conssting of a shaft revolubly mounted stantially as desorbed and shown and for in the supporting frame, a looking hook the purpose Set forth. 10 keyed upon said shaft and adapted. to grip In Wtness whereof I have hereunto set over the Stud of the foot plate, a spring for my hand in the presenoe of two Wtnesses.
