Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed February 25, 1910, Serial No. 545,950. Renewed March 28, 1911. Serial No. 617,498.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN PRoUDroo'r, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Pasadena, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Slide-Garriers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to slide carriers for magic lanterns or the like, and has for an object to provide means actuated upon withdrawal of the carrier from its supporting frame to engage the plate or slide to elevate it to cause its upper edge portion to be exposed above the upper edge portion of the carrier to enable the operator of the machine to readily and conveniently extract the said slide or plate without having to bring his fingers into touch with the main body portion of the plate, hence obviating marring or mutilation of the plate or slide.
Another object of the invention resides in the peculiar construction by means of which, when the slide or plate carrier is moved to its operative position in its frame or holder, the elevating member will assume its normal position to accommodate accurate adjustment of the plate in the slide carrier and to accommodate accurate adjustment of the carrier in its frame or holder.
In the drawing, forming a portion of this specification and in which like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views :Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved slide carrier. Fig. 2 is a similar view with parts in section to more clearly illustrate the invention. Fig. 3 is a transverse section taken on the line 33 of Fig. 1.
My improved slide carrier consists of a main supporting frame 1 which may be of the usual or any approved Well known construction. As shown, the frame or holder is formed to provide a guideway for the slide carrier 2. The slide carrier is formed with an aperture 3 and with a groove 1 for receiving the slide or plate 5.
The lower bar of the holder or frame 1 has secured thereto a casing 6 in which is pivotally mounted a slide elevating member 7. The member 7 is formed to provide a foot portion 8 whose bottom surface is of arcuate form and conforms substantially in configuration with the face 9 of an actuating member 10. This actuating member is pivoted intermediate of its ends between the walls of the casing and at its upper end the said member is pivoted to a link 11. The link 11 is slidable through one end of the casing and its outer extremity is formed to provide a nose or lug 12 which extends into the groove 18 of the slide carrier. The slide carrier has its bottom member formed to provide a slot 14: to accommodate the movement of the elevating member 7.
Upon reference to Fig. 2 of the drawing wherein the major portion of the elevating member is disposed vertically and the slide carrier moved outwardly to a slight extent it will be seen that the engagement of the said elevating member with the plate or slide will be sufficient to move the plate or slide in an upward direction to expose a portion thereof at a point beyond the upper edge of the carrier 2. The construction of the elevating member is such that it lies in the dotted line position shown in Fig. 2 of the drawing when the slide carrier is operatively posi tioned in the holder. When the slide carrier is moved in the direction of the arrow shown in Fig. 1, the shoulder 15 of the groove 13 will engage the nose or lug 12 to impart the desired sliding movement to the link 11 and to transmit to the member 10 the desired rocking movement to cause the curved surface 9 thereof to engage the correspondingly formed. surface of the elevating member 7 so as to effectively move the said elevating member 7 to the full line position shown in Fig. 2.
The construction of the slide carrier as shown and described herein is such that the operator of the machine can conveniently remove the plate or slide by grasping the exposed upper edge portion hereinbefore described, thus obviating having to bring the fingers in contact with such portions of the plate that might in any way destroy or mutilate any part of the surface of said plate.
I claim:
1. A device of the class described comprising a holder, a slide carrier mounted for movement in the holder, an elevating member for the slide, a movable link actuated by the carrier, and operative connections between the link and the elevating member.
2. A device of the class described comprisconnections between the actuating member ing a holder, a slide carrier movable in the and the said elevating member. 10 holder and provided upon its lower edge I In testimony whereof I aIfiX my signature With a groove, an elevating member for the f in presence of two Witnesses. slide, an actuating member having a nose JOHN PROUDFOOT.
portion extending into the groove of the \Vitnesses: slide carrier and adapted to be engaged by C. M. SIMPSON, one Wall of the said groove, and operatlve B. C. STRANG.
Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents, Washington, 1). C.
