To all whom it may concern: 1 Be it known that I, EARL I. BRYAN, a y
citizen of the United States, residing at Miles City, in the county of Custer and! State of Montana, have invented certainj new and useful. Improvements in Broilers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to broilers and the principal object of the same is to provide a broiler in which the smoke is prevented from entering the room.
The invention further has for its object to provide a means for bracing the cross bars which support the meat and prevent any danger of the weight of the meat pulling them from the sockets.
Another object of the invention is to provide a novel cover in which there is provided a means for insuring the cover remaining tightly in place upon the upper This invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings wherein:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the broiler with the cover removed. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view through the broiler as itwould appear on the stove with the cover in place. Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view through the center of the broiler. Fig. 4L is a side elevation of a modified form of broiler intended to be used when only one lid of the stove is removed. Fig. 5 is a top plan view of the modified form of broiler. Fig. 6 is an enlarged fragmentary view of the lower portion of the broiler and shows the manner of mounting the cross bars.
Referring to the accompanying drawings by numerals it will be seen that the improved broiler comprises a metallic frame 1 which is preferably made elongated so as to surround the entire space left open when all of the lids from the fire boX of the ordinary coal stove are removed. This form of broiler is shown in Fig. 1, but if it is desired to cook a piece of meat which would only need to have one of the lids removed a broiler having a circular frame such as that shown in Figs. 4: and 5 may be used.
The frame 1 is provided near its lower edge with a plurality of oppositely disposed 4 openings which in the preferred form run transversely of its longitudinal diameter. The upper and lower edges of the frame are rolled inwardly and are braced by means of the bracing wires 2 and 3, the lower rolled edge of the frame coming up to approximately the level of the lower edge of the openings formed in the frame. A number of transverse bars 4: are placed within the frame and have their ends supported within the openings formed near the lower edge of the frame. The bars rest upon the rolled lower edge 3 as clearly shown in Figs. 2 and 3 and are thus braced so that the weight of the meat placed upon the bars will not have any tendency to draw the ends out of the openings.
The cover 5 is of the same shape as the frame and is provided near its circumference with a ridged portion 6 forming a seat in its under surface in which the rolled upper edge of the frame rests when the cover is in place. By having this seat the cover may be readily put in place and there is not any danger of it accidentally slipping off and permitting smoke to enter the room.
The cover 5 is provided with the usual handle 7 to lift the cover 0E when desired. Handles S'are secured to the frame 1 in convenient places so as to permit the broiler to be easily removed from the stove when the cooking is finished.
In the operation of this device, the lids 9 are removed and the broiler is put in place, as shown in Figs. 3 and 2. The meat is then placed upon the cross bars 4: and the cover placed upon the broiler. When it is desired to turn the meat the cover is re moved and the meat is turned, and the cover is then replaced until the meat is done when the entire broiler can be removed and the lids replaced.
By means of this construction it will readily be seen that the smoke caused by broiling does not escape into the room and that by the construction of the cover there is no danger of it slipping off of the upper edge of the broiler and thus permitting smoke to escape.
