JUSTUS HATTEMER, OF WEST NEW YORK, NEW JERSEY, ASSIGNOR 'lO HARDMAN, PECK & COMPANY, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., A CORPORATION OF NEW YORK.
PLAYER GRAND PIANO.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JUsTUs HATTEMER, a citizen of the United States, residing at West New York, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Player Grand Pianos; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to player grand pianos, and has for an object to provide accommodation for the operative parts of a piano which may be conveniently moved to give access to the action.
A further object of the invention is to provide in a player grand piano a tracker bar communicating with the usual tubes, flexible or otherwise, which said tubes communicate directly with separable blocks hav ing passages formed therein and the latter blocks communicating by means of flexible tubing with the action.
With these and other objects in view, the invention comprises certain novel constructions, combinations and arrangements of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the drawings :Figure 1 is a view of the front of a conventional grand piano showing the operative parts in elevation. Fig. 2 is a view in elevation of the front of a conventional grand piano showing the mechanism swung upwardly upon its hinges and the blocks separated. Fig. 3 is a view in transverse section of the blocks secured together in operative position.
Like characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views.
As shown in the drawings the controlling parts of the player piano, consisting of the track bar 10, music roll 11, motor 12, and other parts hereinafter mentioned, are rigidly mounted upon a board 13, hinged to the frame of the piano so that the said board with the parts connected thereto may be raised as shown in Fig. 2. Upon the board Specification of Letters Patent.

in the figures is also shown the tempo regulator at 1 1 and with tubes, flexible or other wise, shown at 15, running from the tracker bar 10 to a block 16 and similar tubes 17 running from the tracker bar 10 to the block 18. The block 18, as shown in Fig. 3, is provided with openings 19 communicating with the tubes and bent at right or other angles to communicate with openings 20 formed in blocks 21 and 22, respectively. From the blocks 21 and 22 tubes 23 and 24 lead, respectively, to the diiferent sections of the divided action so that when the blocks 16 and 17 and the blocks 18 and 22 are secured together in any approved manner as by the screws 25, the holes 19 and 20 register so that communication is formed from the tracker bar 10 through the blocks to the action. It will be noted that the blocks above mentioned are the only portions connecting the operating mechanism withthe action so that the simple releasing of the screws will permit the operating mechanism to be raised with the board 13 to the position shown at Fig. 2 which permits access to the action beneath such board.
In addition to the tracker bar 10 and its associate winding and re-winding spools carried by the hinged board 13, such board also carries a motor 12, and means for transmitting motion from such motor to the music rolls, and also upon the opposite side carries a tempo regulator 14 with a link 26 connecting such tempo regulator with a lever 27 which extends through the board at the base of the hinged board 13, and is disposed adjacent the winding roll and provided with a wing 28 to be manipulated by the operator. A link 29 also connects the winding and rewinding mechanism with a similar lever 30 provided with a wing 31 similarly disposed and all of such mechanism is moved with the hinged board 13 upon its hinges, also manuals 32 connecting through tubes 33 with expression devices.
What I claim is In a player piano abody containing player pneumatics, a key bed, a board hinged above the key bed, a tracker bar, music rolls, a
motor and expression device carried by the to control the music rolls, motor and eX- 10 board, separable blocks one part carried by pression device.
