To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES A. TATUM, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York have invented new and useful Improvements in Breast-Pumps, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to breast-pumps and has for its object to construct a pump of this description in such a manner that the bulb can be accurately fitted to the neck of the receptacle to make a tight closure and insure eflicient suction. The bulb is provided with a collar which prevents expansion and contraction of the neck portion of said bulb and said collar has a diaphragm portion which prevents liability of the passage of milk from the pump receptacle into the bulb.
This invention is set forth in the following specification and claim and illustrated in the annexed drawing in which Figure 1 is a part elevation and part central sectional vlew of a breast-pump enibodying this invention. Fig. 2 is a section along the line m m Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a part elevation and part sectional view of the bulb.
In this drawing the letter a indicates the bulb. The neck portion of the bulb is provided with a collar 6 of suitable material, such as sheet metal, to prevent spreading or expansion of the neck, and insure tight closing means for uniting the bulb to the neck portion of a receptacle 0. The collar 6 is provided with a wall portion forming a contraction in the nature of a perforated partition or diaphragm as indicated at Z).
The mouth of the receptacle is indicated at d. When this flaring mouth portion of the receptacle is applied to the breast any milk sucked into the receptacle is retained therein as the diaphragm b prevents liability of the passage of milk from the pump receptacle into the bulb. The collar 1) enables tight closure to be made for uniting the bulb a to the neck portion of the'receptacle and enables the bulb to exert efficient suction for drawing milk from the mouth portion (Z into the receptacle. The collar Z) and neck portion of the receptacle can be made to engage one another by a suitable screw thread or bayonet lock finish.
The neck portion of the bulb can be suitably clasped as by a ring indicated at e.
I claim:
A breast pump comprising a liquid containing receptacle provided with a mouth and an exteriorly threaded neck, combined with a bulb havin a neck portion provided with a metallic co lar secured to the inside thereof and formed with a thread adapted for engagement with the exteriorly threaded neck of the receptacle, said collar having a diaphragm with a perforation of smaller diameter than the inner wall of the neck of the receptacle for checking the passage of the liquid into the bulb.
