ATTACHMENT FOR DIE-STOCKS.
invention being to provide means other than the ordinary die stock handles by which die stocks may be rotated in screw thread cutting operations under conditions that will not permit of the use of the ordinary die stock handles.
In many instances where screw threads are to be cut on objects such as pipes, there is insuflicient space to permit of the ordinary die stock handles turning in a circular path for the operation of the die stock, and this is particularly true in cutting screw threads on pipes that are present in ditches or trenches in view of the fact that the walls or bottoms of the ditches or trenches prevent the proper movement of the die stock handles. By my improvement, I am enabled to dispense with the ordinary handles and substitute means applied directly to the die 1 stock frame by which said frame may be operated so that the space in which the die stock turns does not need to be any greater than one which will permit the turning of the frame only. In the accompanying drawings :A designates a die stock frame having side wings or fins B. No invention is herein claimed for said frame, which is illustrated only for the purpose of showing my attachment applied thereto. The die stock frame is preferably so made as to permit of the application to it of the usual handle rods C, seen in dotted lines Fig. I, and which are dis pensed with when my attachment is made use of.

My attachment comprises a yoke 1 that is in general contour of U-shape, and has an outwardly projecting central part which is arched or raised so as to provide die clearance between it and the die stock and two arms that are adapted to straddle the die stock and the die stock frame A. The arms of this yoke terminate in hooks 2 which engage the side wings or fins and within which are socket seats 3 which receive the side wings or fins. The yoke is applied to the die stock by slipping the hooks of its arms onto the side wings or fins of the die stock frame until they are brought to substantially the longitudinal center of said frame, and such application is facilitated by reason of the fact that the width of the frame is narrowed from its longitudinal center to its ends. The socket seats 3 in the hooks of the yoke arms are of such contour as to fit snugly to the wings or fins of the die stock frame and,therefore, the yoke arms are connected to the die stock frame in a substantial manner by the simple act of slipping the attachment onto said frame.
To provide for the positive retention of the attachment upon the die stock frame, I mount in the arms of the yoke binding or clamping screws 4 that are adapted to impinge against the die stock frame after passing through said arms, and effect a clamping action upon the wings or fins of the die stock frame located in the socket seats 3 over the inturned ends of the hooks 2.
The yoke 1 is provided with a wrench head 5 to which a monkey wrench, any other type of wrench, or any other suitable implement may be applied, for the purpose of turning the attachment and operating the die stock frame with the same efficiency as it would be operated by the use of the usual handle rods, and with the requirement of but a limited space in which the wrench is manipulated, for the operation of the die stock.
The attachment herein described is extremely simple in nature and inexpensive in cost, and is also durable and unlikely to become impaired in use. It may be instantly detached from the die stock frame when the user of such frame desires to employ with it the ordinary handle rods under conditions where there is sufiicient surrounding space to receive the side Wings of and to engage beneath the die stock frame.
