UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES F. STODDARD, 0E BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGN OR TO AMERICAN PNEU- MATIC SERVICE COMPANY, OF DOVER, DELAWARE, A CORPORATION OF DELAWARE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 23, 1911.
7 Application filed August 3, 1908. Serial No. 446,528.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES F. SToDDARD, of Dorchester, Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Carrier-Bustiers for Pneumatic- Tube Apparatus, of which'the following is a specification.
My invention relates to new and useful improvements in buffers for carriers used in pneumatic despatch tube apparatus for the transmission of cash, memoranda, mail matter and the like.
In the accompanying drawings which illustrate a construction'embodying my invention, Figure 1 is a side elevation of part of the carrier showin the same in section. Flg. 2 is the front end of the buffer head.
Like letters of reference refer to like parts throughout the several views.
A represents a carrier provided with the usual packing rings B suitably secured in place at each end of the carrier. Secured to the front end of the shell of the carrier A is a small shell A which surrounds the front end of the carrier and has a concave portion which extends into the carrier as shown. A suitable fiber packing C is provided of felt or other material to deaden the force of the blow on the carrier head when it is discharged. This packin is held in place by the dish-shaped plate which is secured to the shell A by suitable bolts E. The shell A and the dish-shaped plate I) are secured by the bolts E in direct cont-act, the
packing 0 being cut away where the two.
I bolts come together but is held securely in place by the circular flange F of the dishshaped plate D. By securing metal to metal, the buffer head is improved in construction andits life lengthened as the rivets or bolts do not sheer olf as is common where the the front end of felt or other material is located between the metal parts and around the bolts.
Having thus described the nature of my invention and set forth a construction em- 1. A carrier for pneumatic despatch tube apparatus having a concave shell closing one end of the same, a packing of suitable material located in said shell and provided with-a recess, a plate adapted to be located in said recess and to hold said packing in place on said shell, and means for securing said plate and said concave shell in direct contact with one another.
2. A carrier for pneumatic despatch tube apparatus having a concave shell closingone end of the same, a packing of suitablematerial located in said shell and provided with a central recess, a plate located in said recess and provided with a flange to hold said packing in place on said valve, and means for securing said plate and said concave shell in direct contact with one another.
3. A carrier for pneumatic despatch tube apparatus having a concave shell closing one end of the same, a packing of suitable material located in said shell and provided with a central recess, a plate located in said recess and provided with a laterally extending circular flange to hold said packing in place on said shell, and means for securing said plate and said concave shell in direct contact with one another. e
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses, this thirtyfirst day of July A. D. 1908.
