FLUID-ACTUATED TURBINE.
Application filed October a; mo. Serial so. 585,240;
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM J. A. LON- DON, a subject ofthe King of England, and a resident of Hartford, in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have in-' vented new and useful Improvements in Fluid-Actuated Turbines, of which the following is a specification. I
This invention relates generally to fluid actuated turbines, and particularly to. the
construction of the rotor or bucket wheel, and has for its object the improvement in the construction of the rotor or bucket wheel of fluid actuated turbines of the type where- 1 in the buckets are arranged in theperipheijy of the rotor.
The invention is illustrated in the drawings in which Figure 1 is a side view of part of abucket with one side plate removed showing some of the buckets in central section and others in side elevation. Fig. 2 is a sectional view on the line 2, 2, of Fig. 1. Fig. 8 is a top view of one of the buckets;
Rotors made'in accordance with my invention comprise two side plates a, b, circumferentially grooved on their opposing surfaces near their outer edges as indicated forms the top of the other bucket, producinga chamber iiiclosed on all but one side and having a curved rear wall. The side ribs 4, 4, .on the buckets fit into thecircumferential grooves o in the plates. and pins 12 pass through the holes'cZ in the plates and through an apertured boss 13 on the buckets, these pins being headed over at their outer ends to tie the plates together. There is thus provided a rotor or bucket wall in which the parts are firmly pressed and interlocked providing a structure which 'will withstand high speed without-serious deflection. f
1. A bucket member adapted" the rotor of a fluid actuated turbine comprismg in an integral structure a bottom plate, 5.
and upstanding flange forming side and rear walls, the latter being curved, anda. depend? ing stiffening web transversely"o said botff tom plate. E
2. A rotor comprising a pair and bucket members arranged instep fortit side plates;
mation' between the edges 'ofsaidjplatesp each bucket member comprising. a chamber open: at top and front and havinga -curved' rear wall, the bottom of one'cliambe'r' form;
ing the top of an adjacent ehamb er,,means for securing 831d bucket niembers' n. pl e-,;
and a stifiening webon the bottom of 3( In a rotor the combination with a pair of side plates, of bucket members arranged'in; step. formation between the. "edges of. .said
plates, and means for securing them in place," each bucket member being formed.inari iri-v tegral structure, with bottom plate,- sideandicurved rear walls and a depending st'ifi'ening web.-
4. In a rotor the combination withiside plates, of'bucket members ofiiitegral structure open on to andfront and having a curved. rear wal and a stifi'ening web depending from the bottom, said bucketsbeing adapted for arrangement one above the other in step formation between said side'plates, pins extending between said-plates and a boss on the under side of the buckets apertured to receive said pins. v
In a rotor the combination with a pair of side plates having circular grooves in their opposing surfaces, buckets having side 1 ribs fitting in said grooves, and a stiffening web depending fromtheirunder side, and
pins extending from plate to plate through a boss on said buckets totic said plates to- I l getlier and hold said buckets in place.
