SWITCH THROWING AND LOCKING APPARATUS.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, Nonnnnr BURAS and 'ED\VARD P. LARRY, citizens of the United States, residing at Venice. in the parish of Plaquemineand State of Louisiana, have invented new and useful Improvements in Switch Throwing and Locking Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
Our present invention pertains to means for throwin and locking switches and other devices; an it contemplates the provision [of an apparatus embodying such a construction that a single lever is used to unlock any one of a plurality of switches or other movable devices, and then throw the same from one position to another.
The invention also contemplates the arrangement of the plurality of combinations wit which the single lever is designed to cooperate, in a single stand, and this compactly and yet in such manner that there is no liability of any one of the said combinations interfering with the operation of any other.
The. invention also contemplates the provision of movable means designed to be connectedwith a switch or other device to be moved, movable means for normally locking the first-named means and means movable into and out of the first-na1ned means; the
' said elements being so relatively arranged thatthe introduction of the third-named means in the first-named means is attended by locking of the latter while removal of the third-named means from the first-named means is attended by locking of said firstnamed means.

Our novel apparatus comprises a stand 1 and a lever-support or pedestal 2; the latter being arranged as shown in Fig. Q,relative to the former.
.As shown in Fig. 1,, the stand 1 comprises an upright frame 3, having a base plate 4 that is adapted to be fixed in position. and also comprises a stepped bracket 5, suitably fixed to and depending from the base plate of the main frame.
The supportor-pedestal 2 is stepped and provided with slots 0. as bestshown in Fig. 3, and is designed to be suitably fixed in the position shown in Fig. 2. In the slots 6 and on the uppermost step of the pedestal 2 are fulcrumed six (more or less)"horiz ontally swinging T-shaped levers 7. and the head of each of said levers is designed to be connected through rods 8, Fig. 2. with the switch or other movable device that is to be moved and locked; the stepped'character of the pedestal serving to prevent the levers and the. rods from interfering notwithstand' ing the compactness of the arrangement.
Journaled in the frame 3 and bracket 5 of the stand 1 are six (more or Iess)1fnpright rock-shafts 9. and fixed on the lower ends of the said rock-shafts 9 are cranks 10; each crank being arranged adjacent one of the steps of the bracket r') in order to prevent the cranks interfering with each other. and-also in order to prevent interference between the link-bars 11 which. connect the cranks 10 with .the stems of the T-levers 7, as clearly shown in Fig. 2. By particular reference to said figure, it will be manifest that rocking of any one of the rock-shafts 9 in a directibn to swing its crank 10 toward the left will be attended by swinging movement of the particular lever 7 connected with said crank 10 in one direction. while rocking of the. said shaft 9 in the opposite direction will swing its crank 10 toward thg right. and swing the mentioned lever 7 in if direction opposite to that first-named."

With the parts in the positionshown in. Fig. 1, all of thefroc'k-shafts 9 are locked against rotation, When, however, it .is deand the switch or other;device connected -therewith, the -opera-tor simply inserts the lever .19 in the socket 12 of the particular rock-shaft, and thenrocks the shaftv by swinging the lever.
