As a further means of securing the door in locked position, there is slidably mounted a bolt id in brackets 45 on the door 12. This bolt a l; passes through an opening d6 in the side of the door and is adapted to enter an opening i? in the body of the safe. The sliding motion is imparted to the bolt by means of a pinion d8 which meshes with a rack d9 formed on said bolt. The pinion on its pivot 2-; h
i8 is mounted on the end of a shaft which projects through the front of the door 12 and is provided with an operating knob 51. A disk 52 is mounted within an opening in the bolt ed and said disk has a flat portion 54 for a purpose to be explained. Said disk 52 is secured to one end of a shaft 55 that projects through the front of the door 12 and has mounted thereon an operating knob 56 (see Fig. 1) and is arranged so as to bring its curved edge portion 53 into either of the depressions 57 or 58 formed in the bolt, thereby securing the same. when it is in either locked or unlocked position. lVhen it is desired to move the bolt, the disk 52 is rotated to bzing the flat portion 5% adjacent the depressions 5'7 and 58 thereby re,- leasing the bolt for movement.
Additional means to that just described are provided for securing the belt at when in locked position said means consists of a pair of pivoted hooks 59 and G0 which engage within notches 61 and 62 formed in the upper and lower surfaces the bolt ii at the end thereof. Both hooks are spring pressed to normally hold them in engagement with the notches and are also flexibly connected with operating rods 63 and 64: which are provided with knobs or handles 65'and 66 respectively. The rods 63 and 6 are provided with upstanding lugs 6"? and 68 respectively which are adapted to pass through notches 69 and 'l't formed in a pair of locking disks Tl. and 72 when the notches are turned to be in line with the path of movement of the lugs. 'lhe disks 71 and 72 are secured to stub shafts T and M which pass through the side casing of the and are provided ith operating handles 75 and 76 respectively. A ratchet wheel on each of the shafts and T l is. acted upon by a spring pawl for holding the shaft and its disk in different positions. In the operation of this last mentioned portion of the device, in order b0 unlock the bolt 14;, i is necessary to just aline the notches t9 and with their respective lugs 67 and 68 and then push on the knob 65 and pull on the knob 66.
it is to be understood that those skilled in the art to which this invention pertains may change the proportions and minor details without departing from the spirit of the invention; also. that the portions desig nated 43, 56, and 76 in the drawings may be made in the form of any suitable combination lock instead of the simple structure shown in the drawings.
