JOHN SALISBURY, OF SOITUATE, RHODE ISLAND.
Letters Patent No. 99,111, dated January 25, 1870; antedated January 14, 1870.
IMPROVEMENT IN IBOBBIN-EOLDER.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same,
Toall whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, J oHN SALISBURY, of Scituate, in the county of Providence, in the State of Rhode Island, have invented an Improvement on Benjamin 'iburs Spring-Holder for Bobbins, patented January 2, 1866; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon. ,The nature of my invention and improvement conssts in a metallic tube with curved pointed prongs, said curved prongs bearing on'tne spindle vwhen the spindle is placed into the bobbin, and which exerts sufficient friction to hold the bohbin upon said spindle. At the same time the points of the curved prongs, when inserted in the bobbinhead, arernade to penetrate the inside of said bobbin. Thus theA spring is held in its place.
Benjamin iVilburs patent is a metal tube, with spring prongs projecting inwardly. The prongs press against the spindle, and'hold the bobbin in position. The tube is held in said bobbin by friction only.
This improvement consists in having the springrheld in the bobbin-by the prongs being curved and inserted I in the bobbin-head, with the prongs outward, and their points penetrating the inside of the bobbin-head.
To enable others to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction vand operation.
The tube B, Figures 1,2, and 3, is constructed the same as any ordinary tube of' metal, 'but with the addition of' curved pointed prongs, asshown at D, iigs. 1, 2, and 3.
The springs are inserted in the hobbin-head A, tig. 1, with their prongs D outward.
The points of the prongs D are made to penetrate the inside of the bobbin-head A when the spindle C is placed into said bobbin A, thus holding said spring in its place.
Having described my invention- What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Pat-ent, is-
lhe bobbin-holder, constructed as described and shown, and having thfe curved pointed spring-prongs '1), made to penetrate the bobbin-head A, as and for the purpose set forth.
W'tnessesr- JOHN SALISBURY.
