REAMING ATTACHMENT FOR DIE-STOCKS.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANCIS SAVILLE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chi.- cago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Beaming Attachments for Die-Stocks, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a reamer attachment for pipe-threading die-stocks and has for its object the production of an improved device of this character by means of which a pipe may be simultaneously threaded and reamed.
A further object is the provision of a reamer attachment as mentioned which will be of durable and economical construction and eificient in operation.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
lVith these objects in view my invention consists in a reamer attachment characterized as above mentioned and in certain details of construction and arrangement of parts all as will be hereinafter fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
My invention will be more readily understood by reference to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification and in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of the preferred form of my device showing the same applied to a die-stock, Fig. 2 is a front elevation thereof showing my device in longitudinal section, Fig. 3 is a top plan view thereof, and Figs. 4 and 5 are transverse sections taken on lines w a: and Q -g re spectively of Fig. 2.
Referring now to the drawing, 1 designates a pipe-threading die-stock which may be of any ordinary or preferred design, my device being however especially applicable to the design of die-stock shown in the drawing. The die-stock illustrated comprises generally the head or cutter-bearing portion 2 from which project the socket-bearing portions 3 for operating handles 4:, and the portion 5 which constitutes a chuck whereby the pipe operated upon may be held centrally in the stock. The cutters or dies (not shown) are held in operative position in the head 2 by an annular plate 6 which is secured in position upon the outer side of said head by the screws 7 of which, in the die-stock shown, there are four.

Having their lower ofiset ends secured by the screws 7 to the head 2 is a plurality of projecting arms 8 to the outer extremities of which is rigidly secured, preferably by screws 9, a cylindrical member 10. The opening 11 through said member 10 is polygonal, preferably square, in cross section, said member being so supported that said opening is co-axial with the pipe-receiving opening through the die-stock. Having its shank 12 slidably mounted in the opening 11 is a conical reamer 13 which, with the arrangement disclosed, is evidently held co-axially with the pipe-receiving opening through the die-stool The member 10 is transversely slotted as at 14 intermediate its extremities, the practically severed portions thereof being connected by integral yokes 15. Rotatably mounted in the slot 14 is a knurled feeding nut 16 the female or interior threads thereof engaging mutilated male threads formed upon the longitudinal edge portions of the reamer shank. By so arranging the nut 16, the parts may evidently be readily detached for renewal or cleaning. With the provision described, it will be seen that by simply rotating said nut 16, the reamer may be moved longitudinally in the member 10 toward or from the die-stock to any position desired.
In operation, the die-stock is rotated upon the pipe end until nearly all of the desired number of threads are cut. Now by rotating the feeding nut 16, the reamer is adjusted to position the same in engagement with the end of the pipe. l/Vhen so positioned, it will be seen that, upon the die-stock being again manipulated to cut the final threads, the desired reaming of the interior of the pipe will also be effected; the reamer in this operation, being rigidly supported by the body 10 which in turn is rigidly supported by the arms 8.
lVhile I have shown what I deem to be the preferable form of my device I do not wish to be limited thereto as there might be various changes made in the details of construction and the arrangement of parts de scribed without departing from the spirit of the invention comprehended within the scope of the appended claims. And although I have designed my device with special reference to the design of die-stock illustrated, it may be used upon any other form to which it is applicable.
