LUBBICATOR.
.i lSpecification of Letters Patent.
'raeenteaiuay a, 1911.
-Application filed April 5, 1910. Serial No. 553,534.
To 'all whom if may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN FRANKLIN MAoINDon, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of state of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lubricators, of which the fol- ,lowing a specitication.
This invention has reference to lubricators' 1@ for the guide rails of elevators, dumb waiters, and the like, and is au improve ment upon Patent No. 905,724, issued to ine December 1, 1908. y
The present invention is designed to proineanswhereby the resilient distributers are protected from dust and grit; t0 create access to the interior of said distributers, and to provide a means whereby the flexible supply pipes of my former pat- 20 ent are eliminated.
ith the above and other objects4 in View, this invention consists of the construction, combination and arrangement of parts all as hereinafter more fully described, claimed 25 and illustrated in the accompanying draw-` ings, wherein:
`Figure 1 is a perspective view of a lubricater constructed in accordance with the present invention; Fig. 2 is a horizontal see- 30 tion taken through the yoke spanning the a section taken along' -vguide rail; Fig. 3 is line 3 3 of Fig. 2.
Reference being had to the accompanying drawings, 10 indicates a frame or yoke con. my former frame, but being provided with'the conduit or duct 11 therein extending completely therethrough, the ends of said yoke being closed. In the base portion of the yokel is provided an openseated the grease'cup A, said grease cup being adapted to feed grease in. the yoke by compresyoke 10 and on the outer sides thereof are threaded the caps 14 and through which access may be lad to the interior of the yoke.
The distributors are adapted through tubes to operate on the interior of said yoke 50 opposite to the openings 13. Each ofvthese distributers comprises a Ushaped member 1 5 adapted to s'pan the terminals of the arms 11, each of said distributers being provided with a rectangular opening 16 in the inner portion thereof. A tube 17 connects I' said tube passing through the opening in the inner side of the arm of the yoke 10 and opposite to the opening 13, said tube being -threaded in the distributer 1'5. jIn order to prevent the displacementof the distributers, the inner terminal of the nipple 17 .is oti'set or flared as at 18 and is adapted to bear against theside of the passage l1 when said distributer is extended to the limit. A spring 19,'surrounds the vnipple and bears betwceua washer 20 which '1s located adja cent to the arm of the yoke 10 and the base portion of the distributer 15, and tends to normally bring said distributer into engagement with the track or rail B, thus permitting the distributer to be maintained in position lagainst, the guide rail, irrespective of the lateral motion of the caras well as permitting an adjustment of the lubricator to various sizes of rails.
A central distributer is located .inthe base ofthe yoke 10 and operates on the edge .of the track B.. This distributer is carried by a tube 21 reeiprocatingin an opening in the inner side of the yoke, and is threaded at its Outer terminal, said threads securing the nipple to a substantially L-shaped dist-ributer 22. The upper portion of said L- shaped distributer is adapted to operate on the upper surface of the yoke 10.
The tube 21 connects with the opening 23 in said distributer 22 and thus conducts grease from the duct 11 to the edge of the track B. A spring 24 surrounds the tube 2l and operates between the washer 25 and said distributer 22, and is 'adapted to project said distributer. against the track. A sleeve 26 .is formed. under the base portion of the yoke 10 in which operates a pair of set screws 27, this structure permitting the attachment of the entiie lubricator to an clevater.
Having thus described my invention what ,is claimed as new is: V
l. In a device of the-class described, the combination with a. yoke having a passage therein, of distributors adapted to projectfrom said yoke comprising tubes reciprocatingly carried by said yoke, and means carried by said tubes whereby -thc same are protected `and a distributing surface supplied, said tubes being flared at their inner .extremities to prevent displacement.
2. In a device of the character set forth, the combinationof a yoke having a passage therein, ofdistributers cooperating with said means whereby said U-shaped members may be projected from the arms of said yoke, and means whereby access may be had to the interior of said tubes and the passage .of the yoke. passage each comprising a tube projecting from said assage, a U-shaped member canried by said tube, the arms of which engage the arms of the yoke thereby protecting the 5 tube, and means whereby said distributers may be projected from said yoke.
3. In. a device of the lclass described, the combination with a 'yoke having a passage `therein, of distributers comprising U-shaped 10 members engaging the arms of said yoke, a
