CHARLES FISHER, OF CHXCAGO, ILLINOI, ASSIGNOR, BY MESNE ASSIGNMENTS, TO
THE AUTOMATIC REBDING SAFE COMPANY, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOES, A CORPORA- TIQN F ILLINOS.
SAVINGS-BANK.
.Application filed December of illinois, have invented a. new and usefull lmproi'enie'nt in Savingsdanks, of Which the following is a specification.
My invention relates particularly to savings-banks provided with several coin-conipartnients adapted to keep the coins of dif ferent denominations separate from each. other to facilitate the counting of the coins when the savings-bank is taken to a bankingl institution for the purposeiof eiieeting a deposit of the savings.
My primary object is to provide a savingsbank of the character indicated, which is of improved general eoi'istruction and which can be manufactured at moderate cost.
lt may be preliminarily stated that a coinnion method of employing banks of this character is for banking institutions to furnish the savings-banks to depositors, the banking institutions retaining the' keys to the savings-banks, so that 'the banks can be opened only When they are -brought to the banking` institution for the purpose of effecting deposit of its contents. ln an analo.
gous manner, parents may supply their children with the banks, the parents retaining the keys, so that the banks may be openedl only with the consent. of the parents.
My invention is illustrated in its preferred embodiment in the accompanying` drawings, in Which- Figure 1 is a perspective View of a savings-bank constructed in accordance With.
-my inyention; Fig. 2, a broken sectional vieW,-the section being taken approximately as indicated at line 2 of Fig. l; Fig. 8, a transverse section taken as indicated at line 3 of Fig. 2; Fig. 4, a horizontal section taken 6, a bottom View of the casing, or-shell, dis-f'Vv closing the guard-carrying and lock-carrying lplate' and attendant parts employed; Fig. 7,21v broken upper perspective View of.-
Ithe plate mentioned; Fig. 8, a perspective.
Specification of Letterslatent Patented Apin 25, 19M.. s, 1909. serial No. 531,990.
View adapted to illustrate the manner of connecting'the slot-guards to the guardcazryingv plate; Fig. 9, a broken sectional View taken as indicated at line 9 of Fig. 6 and sho Yinn' the manner in which a name plate employed and the guard-carrying plate mentioned are connected with the top of theicasing; Fig. l0, a broken sectional View showing the relation of one of the guards to the coin-slot; and Fig. ll, a similar section illustrating the operation of inserting a'coin.
In the construction illustrated, A represents a body, or core, in Which the coin-receptacles are formed and which is equipped at its base portion with a bill-receptacle A1; and B, a casing which receives the body A proved locking means described hereinbelow. The body A preferably comprises a base l and coin-chambers, or coin-receptacles, 2 rising from said base and east integrally therewith. The bill-Chambon A1 in reality forms adoWnWard extension of the body A ing B which is open at its lowerend. Said chamber Alis formed with side-Walls 3, a bottom-wall 1 and end-Walls 5 which are cut away substantially throughout theirV extent, 4as indicated at 6, thns aiordingropenings through which bills `may beinserted into ythe Subchamber, so that in eect lthe body A thereof. The sub-chamber may be formed by combining with the basewall 1 either a .casting or stamping which affords the Walls Y3, 4 andgl. The side-Walls 3 are provided near their ends Withupwardly extending ,clenehing ings 7 which are clenched "over the flanges 8 of the base 1. The flanges 8 are provided on their upper surfaces with lugs 9 over which the extremities of the clenching lugs Z are clenched, the effect being to Asecure rigidghooks which provide a securefastening.
The coin-chambers 2 are of different sizes to afford chambers for coins .of derent de- *I loniinations.l In the illustration-given, two y'pfthiside chambers are adapted to receive dimefg two are adapted to receive nickels,
one end chamber is adapted to receive quarters, and' the ,other end chamber is s adapted'toreceive half dollars. The coin-y and is preferably secured thereto by the imand is inserted with said body into the cashas a hollow base With openings at the end,-
ion
clienilers, or coin-receptacles, are pref erahlji :formeel ovv casting integrally with the bese l e central longitudinal web l@ which rises from the bese and from which extend, or reilizite, so to speak, flanges 1l -which :Ilford between them the spaces for the coins. rllie inner Wells of the coinreceptecles are curved, es indicated :it 12, to conform to the circumference of the coins, While the side Walls ziiorclecl by the flanges ll. extend substantiel ly tangent' e. lly to the coins, so that the coins maybe" inserted laterally between the flanges 'll :incl niej; he removed in the seme manner: The oettonis 'i3 of the l5 coin-receptacles slope inw 'ily somewhat in accordance with cons motion slioiv'n in niv application llc. 53h58@ ilecl of even date herewith, that the 'coins Will tend to hug the inner Walls ot' thecoin-receptacles when the easing is removed, tlins avoiding spilling of the coins. Finger recesses 14 :ire provided :it the 'outer efiggepoi.ti.cns of the lower Wells of the coin-receptacles. The web l() is recessed. or vcnt away nt its upper portion, :is indicated et l5, to :iiloril rooni 'for the lock, anni the cnil Wells of smid recess nre provided with holt receiving recesses 16, 'eclapteclto receive the locking bolts. The
i Walls between the end coin-receptacles :intlv side. coin-receptacles are recessed f'erticnllx/Y,
as indicated :it 17, the 'bottoms of these rccesse-s ntlordingthe flanges El which carry Jdie clenehing lugs tl.
The casing B preferably isof 'the ova-l forni shown, and the general configuration of the core or body Aend sub-chamber A1 is ovni to permit insertion Within the casing. The casing may he formed or stamped from :i sheet-metal disk. rihe peripheral oval woll is provided at itsnpper portion with coinslots 18 which register with tlie litter-:il openiings of the coinfreceptacles 2. The vertical "or peripheral i 'all of the casing is also provicled with vertical slots 19 which :ire graduated, es indicatedl at 20, to indicate amounts corresponding With the height of the stacks of coins. The lower portion of the casing receives Within it the sub-,chamber A1, und one enflwall ofi the cssing'is provided :it its lower portion with a bill-opening 2l. Lying adjacent. to the inner surface of the Itop of the lcusing is e plete QZjvhich serves to carry thegnnrcls for thecoin-'slotsnncl the lock.
