Description
' ilnited gime D. D. FOLEY, oF WASHINGTON, VDISTRICT on coLUMBIA.
Letters Patent No. 98,945, dazed January 1s, 1870.
The Schedule referred to in these Lettera Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, D. D. FOLEY, of the city of Washington, District of Columbia, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Fountain-Pensfand I do hereby deelare'the following to be a full, clear, and exact description'of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the concave surface of an ordinary peu notched on each side at the point of divergement.
Figure 2 is a view of the improved pen.
Figure 3 is a view of the form taken by the elasticrubber ring, when the same is applied to the pen.
The nature of my invention consists in making a fountain or reservoir of an elastic-rubber ring, above the nib of an ordinarywriting-pen, notched to receive the ring, at little alteration or expense, and otherwise doing away with'objections generally urgedagainst the use of fountain-pens. v
That others skilled in the art of making, may understand the construction and operation of my invention, will describe it more particularly.
C is an ordinary pen, with notches B B for the ring N, to prevent it from slipping ,as it clutches around the convex surface. The ring is made of rubber.
' E is the pen, improved by the elastic-rubber ringN,
passing over the concave surface where the pen diver-ges to the point. The ink fills up the concave space D, iig. 2, and is held there by capillary attraction until the continued pressure on the uib gradually draws all the ink from the reservoir.
Having described my invention, l/Vhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters VPatentof the United States, is y An improved fountain-pen, consisting of an ordinary 'writing-pen, with notches B B and elastic-rnbber ring N when the notches and ring are located at the point of divergement of the-nib and at the head of the split, as shown, and for the described purposes.
` D. D. FOLEY. Witnesses:
O. G. PAGE, AUG. H. RAYMOND.
