Description

H. H. ILLER. HOSE ATTACHMENT. APPLICATION-FILED 00T.18,1910.
Patented Apr. 11, 1911.
' To all it may concern:
\ HENRY H MILLER, OF VALPARAISO, INDIANA.
HOSE ATTACHMENT Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 11,1911.
Application filed. October 18 1910. Serial No. 587,705.-'
Be it known that I, Hnnnr H. MILLER, a citizen of the United States,.rcsiding at Valparaiso, in the county of Porter and State of Indiana, have invented new and.useful Improvements in Hose Attachments, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to supports for water hose, and the )rimary object of the in";
vention is to provi e a device of this class...
which is extremely simple in construction, which may be manufactured at slow cost, which is easily positioned within the ground, and which will effectively and securely as well as adjnstably retain a hose for sprinkling purposes.
With the above, and other objects in view,
. which will appear as the description progresses, the invention resides in the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure lis a perspective view of a hose support or standard constructed in accordance with the present invention and showing the same sustaining a hose. Fig. 2 is a vertical longitumgs, the
dinal sectional view of the same. Fig. 3 is an elevation of the rod showing the stop member in section thereon, the latter bein illustrated in its open position by the ful lines, and in its closed position by the dotted lines. Fig. 1 is a side elevation of one of the hose securing clamps. Fig. 5 is a. similar view of the opposite securing clamp section.
In the accompanying drawings the nu-' mera-l 1* designates the rod or standard.
This rod 1 may be constructed of any suitable material and has its lower extremity pointed as at 2', whereby the same may be readily inserted within the ground. The upper portion of the rod 1 is bent to provide an eye 3, the purpose of which will presently be set forth. Mounted upon the rod 1 is :12 Ste 1 member 4. This stop member 4 is prefera ly constructed of a single strip of suitable material and comprises a rounded body portion 5 having oppositely disposed ears 6. The ears 6 project a suitable distance awa from the body portion 5, and are connected\ together through the medium of a suitable removable pintle 7. By this arrangement, it 1 will be noted that when the step 4 is in theposition illustrated in Fig. 1 of the draw pintle iand the end of the body 4 will hear at o posite angles against't-he rod 1 so as to efi ectively hold the strip in its body brought to an rooted without operative position, and it will be further noted that the opening between the ears and the pintle 7 is sufiicient to allow theroundcd portion 5 of thestep 4: to fold snugly against the rod when the said step is'not operative position.
The object o the step, it will he understood, is to enable the operator'to insert the rod within the ground. This is accomplished by merely placing the foot upon thesaid step so that the weight of the operator will force the rod within the-ground'at any desired distance. i The step 4 is, as will be readily understood, vertically adjustable :upon the rod 1 and the depth at which the within the ground can rod is to be inserted by the adjustment of be readily regulated tho'said step.
The numerals 8 and 9 designate the hose clamping members. Bothof these members 8 and 9 comprise elongated bod portions 10 and 11, the same bein rounde in cross seetion and the said mein ers are'each centrally- -provided with depending ears 12 flIldf13.
The ear 13 is provided with a circular opening 14:, while the ear 12 is provided with a. non-circular opening 15. Adapted tobe inserted within the said openings 14, and 15 as;
well as to pass through the eye 3 of the rod 1,'is aheaded bolt 16. This bolt 16 is provided with a threaded portion 17 and a nonthreaded portion 18. The non th'readcd portion 18 is adapted to engage the walls provided by the non-threaded opening 15 so as to prevent the turning of the bolt when the same is ppsitioned.
The numeral 19 designates the winged'iiut whichv is adapted to engage the-pro ecting thread d portion 17 of the bolt 16 and to tightl force theclamps toward each other and i toengagement with the hose 20. By
this rrangementfit will be noted that thehose k0 may be adjusted at any desired an le so that the spra from the hose ma "be die necessity of handl Havin thus fully escribed the invention, what I cfiiim as new is 1. In a device for the purpose set forth,, a
'rod having a pointed end, a. step for said rod, said step having a rounded bodg portion provided with oppositely arrange the ears and adapted tocontaet with the rod mg the.
rearflwardly extending cars; a pintle connecting I when the step isswung upwardly, a pair of 'clamping members comprising a rounded oppositely disposed clamping members piv-; body portion having depending ears, openotally connected with the rod, and a secur- .ings within both of the ears, one of said ing element adapted to retain the clamping openings being rounded and the opposite 2o 5 members at an angle in relation to the rod; opening being angular, a bolt udapted'to en:
' 2. Ina device for the purpose set forth agage the openings and the eye of the bolt, rod having a. pointed end, a step for said said bolt having an angular'portion engagrod, said step having a rounded bod por-- ing the angular opening of one of the tion provided with oppositely arranger reurclamps, and a winged nut forthe'projeetmg Z 10 wardly extending ears, a pintle connecting threaded portion of the bolt. I
the ears and adapted to contact with the rod In testimony whereof I affix my signature when the step 1s swung downwardly, the in presence of two witnesses.
said body being curved to engage the rod HENRY I-I. MILLER. -when the step 15 swung upwardly, the rod Witnesses: 15 having its upper portion formed with an eye, PnUL NUPPNAU,
,a pairof clamping-members, each of said Cumox Jones.
