Be it known that I, HENRY R. BROWN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pharsalia, in the county of Chenango and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Milking-Stools, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to stoolsand particularly to milking stools.

The object of the invention is the provision of a simply constructed and durable stool of this character whereby the operator can place the same in convenient position adjacent the cow and then shift the seat and the milking pail supporting table to proper position.

A further object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character whereby the seat may be shifted forward and backward upon the support, so that the operator may move himself and the milking pail into proper position or out of reach of a restless cow.

Further objects of the invention will appear as the following specific description is read in connection with the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this application, and in which z- Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device. Fig. 2 is a top plan view. Fig. 3 is a bottom plan view. Fig. 4: is an end elevation of the device. Fig. 5 is a longitudinal sectional view on the line 55 of Fig. 1. Fig. 6 is a vertical section taken on the line 66 of Fig. 1.

Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 represents a support which consists of a single piece of any suitable material, such as wood or metal or a combination of both, and which has secured to its rear end a pair of diverging supporting legs 2. The upper portion of the device is constructed so as to form a track 3 which extends beyond the body 1, as at 4, so as to provide a handle by which the device may be carried from point to point. The lower forward portion of the body 1 is extended outwardly so as to form a supporting arm 5, the outer end of which is provided with a depending supporting foot 6 which, in operation, is adapted to be positioned beneath the cow.

Mounted upon opposite sides of the support 1 are side members 7 and 8 which have connected to their under sides slide rails 9 by means of bolts 10 and fastening devices 11. These slide rails extend outwardly along the side of the arm 5 and have their bottoms arranged in the same plane with the bottom of the arm 5 and connected together by the cross plates 12 and 13, the former being held in position by the bolts 10 and the latter being held in position by screws 14:, and acting as a limiting member which abuts against the stop 15. The forward end of these rails rides upon a cross pin 16 secured to the leg 6 and the upper sides of the rails have secured thereto a pail table 17 which is provided, on its under side, with a groove 18 gradually increasing in depth from its forward end to its rear end,

so as to accommodate the gradual curve of the arm 5 which sits in said groove.

The upper ends of the side members 7 and 8 are held together by themilkers seat 19 which is provided with a fore piece 20 whereby the forward movement of the body of the milker will carry the seat, the side members and the slide rails forward, so as to project the pail table beneath the cow. The seat is curved and is raised up in the back, as shown at 21, for a similar purpose. The members 7 and 8 are provided with a rearward extension 22 to support the seat and journaled between the said members in said extension is a supporting wheel 23 which engages the track 3 and rides thereover, so as to support the seat above the track, and thereby lessen the friction between these parts.

The table 17 is provided with a semi-circular retaining member 24 secured at its forward end to prevent the pail from slipping off the table upon a sudden rearward movement of the parts.

Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new is 1. A device of the class described comprising a support, a seat freely slidable thereon, and a bucket support movable with the seat.

2. A device of the class described comprising a support, a seat slidably mounted thereon, a bucket support, and means connecting the seat and the bucket support, whereby they move as a unit.

3. In a device of the class described, a support having an elongated arm with a supporting leg thereon, supporting members carried by the table to prevent displacement of the pail.
