REEL FOR HOSE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed April 28, 1910. Serial No. 558,268.
Patented Apr. 4, 1911.
' To all whom it mwy concern:
Be it known that I, JEFFRY FnrcoN, citizen of the United States, residing at Barre,
in the county of Washington and State of Vermont, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Reels for Hose, of
which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved reel for supporting a hose, and has for an object to provide a reel with a water connection for permanent communication with the hose,
- and the merits thereof and to acquire a knowledge of the details of construction reference isto be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a vertical section through the improved reel. Fig. 2 is an end elevation ofthe same, partly in section. Fig. 3 is a vertical section through a slightly modified form of the reel. v
Corresponding and like parts'are referred to in the 'followin description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.
Referring to the drawing the numeral 10 designates a wall plate which is secured a ainsta wall 11 or like support by means %the screws 12. The plate 10 is provided upon its outer face with a block 13, the same being substantially in the form ofa cube and having an angular passage 14 therethrough which terminates at its ends in the lower and outer sides of the block 13. An inlet pipe 15 is disposed in threaded engagement with the block 13, communicating with the lower end of the passage 14. The pipe 15 is provided with a suitable valve 16 for controlling the passage of water to the block 13. The block 13 carries an outwardly exthis invention is to" tending and hollow axle 17. The axle 17 is in the form of a length of pi e which is threaded into the outer face 0 the block, communicating with the upper end of the channel 14. The outer extremity of the hollow axle 17 carries an outturned annular flange 18 seated against acorrespondingly formed shoulder 19 formed within a chambered hub 20.
The hub comprises a cylindrical casting which is reduced at its inner end to form a sleeve 21 for snug engagement about the hollow axle 17 The shoulder 19 is formed upon the outer termination of the sleeve 21 to prevent the outer displacement of the hub 20. The inner end of the sleeve 21 carries a stufiin box 22 engagin about the hollow axle 17 or the purpose of forming a sealed joint between the hub and the axle.
The hub 20 forms an enlargement upon the outer end of the sleeve 21 and is closed at its outer end by the insertion of a screw plug 23 into the same. The hub 20 is provided at its opposite ends with radial fingers 24 to which are attached the side bars or radial arms 25 forming the reel. The arms 25 are disposed in pairs and support therebetween a drum 26 concentric to the hub 20.. The drum 26 carries a length of hose 27 which is Wound thereabout and which has its inner end projecting through a suitable opening 28 formed through the drum 26. A nipple 29 is threaded into one side of the hub and carries u on its outer end an elbow 30,which is suitably attached to the inner end of the hose 27. The outer end of the hose 27 carries a suitable nozzle 31 for distributing the water from the hose. In this form the Water passes from the valve 16 through the pipe 15 to the block 13. It is conducted from the block 13 to the hub 20 through the hollow axle 17. The water passes outwardly from the hub through the nipple 29 and the elbow 30 into the hose 27 As the sleeve portion of the hub is snugly and rotatably disposed about the hollow axle 17, the drum may be rotated without in any way interrupting the passage of the water therethrough.
In the modified form disclosed in Fig. .3 the axle 17 supports the .hub 20 in the outer end of which is disposed the val ve 23". The valve 23 cooperates with the hollow axle 17 to regulate the passage of water Having thus described the intention what isclaimed as new 1s:
1. A water distributing apparatus includ ing a plate for engagement against a wall and having a channeled block formed upon its outer face, an inlet pipe threaded into one end of the channel of the block, a hollow axle threaded into the block at the opposite end of the channel and extending outwardly from the plate, a chambered hub having a sleeve portion snugly engaging about the hollow axle and being provided with an internal shoulder, said axle having an annular'flange upon its outer end for engagement against the shoulderto hold the hub in position, a reel mounted upon the hub, a nipple fitted into one side of the hub, and terminating at the periphery of the reel, and a detachable of the hub. V
plug closing the outer end 7 2. A Water distributing apparatus including a hollow block having internal threads at the open ends thereof, an inlet pipe communicating with one side of theblock, a hollow axle supported in the opposite side of the block and extending outwardly therefrom, a chambered hub having a reduced portion fitting snugly about the hollow axle, a detachable plug closing the outer end of the hub, radial fingers projecting in spaced relation from the hub, detachable arms secured to the fingers and radiating from the hub, a drum secured between the outer ends of the arms for supporting the hose, and a nipple fitted into one side of the hub and communicating at its outer end with the hose.
In testimony whereof, I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
