The device embodying my invention is made in two separable parts, which for convenience maybe designated the tube and the can. The tube is in practice made from a drain tile to the flanged end of which is is attached a cover. \Vithin the tube there is received the an which is made of sheet metal or similar material and is readily removable when it is necessary to enrpty t.
The tube is open at thebottoln and, therefore, any liquid which may be accidentally spilled down between the interior of the can and the inside of the drain tile is immediately absorbed by the earth. The earth at the bottom of the tube also tends to absorb any odors arisingfrom the contents of the can. The cover of the garbage container is attached to the concrete, rim in StlClLIDfll'lIlel that it cannot become separated from the tube.
The entire device is exceedingly simple, and. may be made for a price below that of metal cans intended to be sunken in the ground sincethe n'iaterials'of which the tube is constructed are relatively inexpensive. Itis found in practice that the contents of the can will notfreeze under ordinary condito ferment in sunnner than are the contents of a. garbage container which is exposed to the sun. The tube and concrete flange molded thereon. which are the parts in contact with the earth, cannotcorrode and therefore are more durable than metal, as well as being less expensive.

In practice I employ a drain tile of the suitable size for this purpose and place it in. the ground. with the small end (l(S\\"1'1\\'tl-ICl. About the flanged end of the drain ti-le T mold a flange or rim 12 of concrete and line the interior of the rim at the upper part thereof with a lining ring 13 of galvanized iron. This lining ring 13 has an interior diameter slightly grater than the interior of the tube 11, leai-" ig a ledge or shoulder ll. The lining ring also. forms a top edge towhich the cover of the can fits tightly as shown in Fig. 1.
