To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CHARLES J. THOMP- SON, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Panora, in the county of Guthrie and State of Iowa, have invented lnexpensive device upon which a plow may be securely mounted in such a manner that it may be conveniently turned to various positions so as to render various parts con- .veniently accessible to the operator without it being necessary for the latter to move from place to place.

With these and other ends in View which will readily appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the improved construction and novel arrangement and combination of parts -which will be hereinafter fully described and particularly pointed out in the claim.

In the accompanying drawing has been illustrated a simple'and preferred form of the invention, it being, however, understood that no limitation is necessarily made to the precise structural details therein exhibited, but that changes, alterations and modifications within the scope of the claim may be resortedto when desired.

In the'drawing,-Figure l is a perspective View showing the improved plow jack with a plow in position thereon. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional elevation. Fig. 3 is a side view, showing the swivel member detached.

Fig. 4 is a side elevation illustrating a modi-- fied form of the swivel member.

Corresponding parts in the several figures are denoted by like characters of reference.

The base 1 of the improved device may consist of a suitable casting having apertures 2 for the passage of fastening members such as bolts or screws, whereby it may be secured firmly in position upon a floor, a bench or in any suitable location. The base member 1 has a centrally disposed upstanding annular flange 4 which is internally threaded for the reception of a tubular shank 5 which may be of any desired length, said tubular shank member being provided adjacent to its upper edge with a reinforcin g flange 6. The upright tubular shank 5 ,s erves to support" a swivel member which iiicludes in its construction a rod 7 of adiameter equal to the internal diameter of the tubular shank member in which it is inserted, said rod being provided with an annular collar 8, which may be shrunk or otherwise firmly secured in position thereon, or it may be provided with a set screw 9 in order to enable adjustment to be conveniently effected. Said rod at its upper end is provided with a head 10 having a longitudinal slot 11. Said head may be disposed obliquely with relation to the rod 7, as shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3, or may be disposed at'right angles to said rod, as shown in Fig. 4, where said head is designated by 10, the slot therein being 11.

In the practical use of this device, the rod 7 having the head 10 is inserted into the tubular shank 5 where it is supported by means of the collar 8, which latter may be adjusted by means of the set screw 9, if desired, so as to support the head at various elevations. The plow P which is to cbe operated upon. is securely c011- nected with the head by'means of a bolt 12 extending through the land side "and through the slotted head, thereby permitting the plow to be adjusted to various positions and also enabling the cross brace 14 which connects the land side 15 with the mold board 16 to rest and be supported upon the head member 10 of the device.

It will be observed that the head portion carrying the plow is rotatable with refer ence to theupright shank, thus permitting the plow to be twirled around so as to pre sent various portions thereof to the operator standing in front or at one side of the device.

It 'is desirable to provide each outfit with two head members placed at various angles, whereby they shall be particularly adapted for various classes of work.

This device, while of extremely simple construction, has been found thoroughly efiicient in operation and very useful for the purpose for which it is intended, means be- Q assess ing provided whereby a plow may be firmly having a collar engaging the upper end of 10 and yet a-djustably supported without havthe shank member, said rod being also pro ing recourse to a vise. vided with a slotted head.
