Be it known that I, GEORGE TESTER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Liberty Center, in the county of Henry and State of Ohio,have invented new and useful Improvements in Neck Attachments for Shrouds, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to shrouds and more particularly to a collar or neck therefor.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a shroud neck which will snugly fit the neck of the corpse and present a neat appearance, the neck or collar of the shroud being equipped with a spring "reinforce which is open at the rear so that it can be sprung wide open when the shroud is adjusted and then be allowed to close and snugly fit around the neck for the purpose of holding the neck or collar in place without wrinkling or liability of becoming displaced.
With such objects in view and others, as will appear as the description proceeds, the invention comprises the various novel features of construction and arrangement of parts which will be more fully described hereinafter and set forth with particularity in the claim appended hereto.
In the accompanying drawing, which illustrates one embodiment of the invention, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the neck portion of a shroud. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the neck.
Similar reference characters are employed to designate corresponding parts in the views.
Referring to the drawing, A designates the body portion of a shroud, which is provided in the usual manner with a neck 1 that is in the form of a band or collar open at the rear and closed at the front. This collar or neck is provided with a band of spring metal 2 that forms a reinforce of the same shape as the neck. This reinforce is of U-shaped form and the ends thereof are fastened to the neck or collar at the ends thereof so that the collar will be prevented from wrinkling. If desired, the ends of the reinforce can be bent backwardly at l, and embedded into the cloth of which the neck or collar is made, and in this way the neck will be held stretched and present a neat appearance around the neck of the corpse. In applying the collar of the shroud to the neck, the collar is spread open at the rear and then passed around the neck from the front and when in the proper position, the collar is released. The reinforce or stiffening will cause the collar to spring closed around the neck of the corpse and thus hold the upper portion of the shroud in proper position.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is A shroud comprising a body open at its back, a tubular collar open at the back of the body and the ends of the collar being open, a resilient band-like reinforce extending the entire length of the collar and of U- shaped form, the ends of the reinforce being continued out of the open ends of the collar and bent backwardly to embed the end edges of the reinforce into the fabric of the collar, said band being of substantially the same height as the collar to prevent wrinkling thereof.
