and the advantages inherent, obvious and in part specifically referred to .5,-and knotted on 1t may be positively secured in any preferred This lnvention relatesl to improvements in leggings, and one of the objects thereof 1s to produce a legging of improved construction as to the fastening devices employed, where' by the application of the'same to the leg is facilitated, a neater fit and appearance made possible, and at the same time ultimate fastening made at a'single point.v

Another object is to provide in a legging a single fastening member extending from end to end of the legging and acting to keep the edges of the legging in overlapped rela- ,f tion without buckling or bulging, but which isnevertheless for the most part invisible.

The invention consists o? the elements, combinations and arrangements of parts, all as will be hereinafter fully set forth, and the scope of protection contemplated will be indicated in the appended claim.

In the accompanying drawings, whichare to be taken'as a part of this specification, and in which I have illustrated merely preferred forms of embodiment of the invention: Figure 1 is a'n elevation of a legging embodying my invention showing the flaps in closed`relation; and'Fig. 2 is a section on the line 22 of Fig. 1.1

Referring to the numerals on the drawing, a legging of any preferred material is indicated at 1, vadapted to be placed about the leg, and having preferably overlapping portions-3 and 1, whose edges are stitfened as by means of metal strips indicated at 5,'suitably covered and held in position by the material of the fiaps.

Asshown in Fig. 1, a lace or the like 6, is secured to the inner Hap adjacent its lower end. The lace may be passed from the outside of the ap through an eye 7, extending through the flaps and the stiffened member the inside of the ap; or

An eye 1l is located further along the length of the outer flap, and'throu'gh this eye 11 thelace now passes to the inside of the outer flap, emerging through an eye-12 adjacent the upper end of the-outer iap to the outside thereof, whence it maybe passed through an eye 13, adjacent theupper end of the inner flap, and secured in any preferred manner.

The various eyes extend through the stiffening members 5; and the fastening hook or'eye l0 extends through the member 5 and the inner flap. e

It will .be evident that 'with the arrangement described, a neat lit of the legging is assured, the lower ends always held in substantially closed relation ready for the insertion of the foot. The engagement of the lace with the eye 10 prevents any buckling or bulging of the flaps intermediate their ends when the lace is taut and secured, the flaps are drawn together uniformly by a pull upon the free end of the lace, and are securely held against edgewise movement when the at top and bottom; and the lace is-toa eat extent vconcealed between'the edges of the flan. y

It is believed that the use of the legging'is vsulliciently `clear from the detailed -description of parts set out above, and further explanation thereof is accordingly omitted.

Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure. by Letters Patent is: f
