To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ACNTHONY N. Annun- SON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Jacksonville, in the county of Duval and State of Florida, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in F an Attachments for Chairs; and I do hereby declare the. following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part. of this specification.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in fan attachments for rocking chairs and comprises a simple and efficient device of this nature having various details of construction, combinations and arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully described and then specifically defined in the appended claims.

I illustrate my invention in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the application of the invention, and Fig. 2 is a detail view showing the manner of fas tening the device to the back of a chair.

Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates a bar having a pin Q at its upper end. Said bar is adapted to be held in an adjusted position by means of the clamping jaws B which are frictionally held against the bar by means of a headed bolt D which passes through registering apertures in the jaws and upon which bolt a threaded nut E is mounted. Plates F are also held one to each of said jaws by means of the bolt and nut and each of said plates has its opposite ends turned into rolls F for engagement with the ends H of the wires 1, each of which is bent upon itself to form resilient wings forming clamping means for engagement with the back of a chair. Each of said plates has one of its sides bent to form a roll J adapted to engage a bail-shaped portion of each wire, as shown clearly in Fig. 1 of the drawings.

The pin Q projects from the upper end of said bar and forms pivotal means for the V-shaped wire N which is bent to form the eyes N pivotally mounted upon said pin and the middle portion of said V-shaped wire, which is bent upon itself, is adapted to bear against the edge of the bar to limit the pivotal movement of the wire N in one direction. The ends of said wire N are bent to form hooks N, and O designates a rock shaft having a hook O at one end adapted to engage one of the hooks N and a crank arm 0 adapted to engage the other hook of the rod N. S designates an arm of said rock shaft which terminates in an eye S and to which a cord T is adapted to be fastened. A curtain or fan L is fastened to said rock shaft and hangs in the manner shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings.

In operation, the resilient wings are adapted to be clamped over the back of a chair and, by a person pulling upon the cord T, the curtain or fan L may be swung back and forth. In the event of the chair to which the device is fastened being a rocker, the backward and forward move ment of the chair will assist in swinging the fan, as will be readily understood. When it is desired to throw the device out of operation, the wire N and its pivotal portion may be swung back behind the bar A and out of the way. By the adjustable feature of the jaws which engage said bar, it will be noted that the latter may be held in different vertical positions.

What I claim to be new is 1. A fan apparatus for chairs comprising clamping members adapted to be fastened to the back of a chair, an adjustable bar secured to the clamping member, a wire bent upon itself and having eyes formed therein, a pin carried by said bar and pivotally engaging said eyes, said bent portion of the wire serving to limit in one direction the pivotal movement of the latter, a rock shaft supported by the wire, a curtain fixed to the rock shaft, and a cord connected to one end of the said rock shaft.

2. A fan apparatus for chairs, comprising clamping members adapted to be fas tened to the back of a chair, an adjustable bar fastened to said clamping members, a wire bent upon itself and having eyes formed therein, a pin carried by said bar and pivotally engaging said eyes, a portion of said wire bent upon itself and serving to limit the pivotal movement of said wire, a rock shaft journaled at the ends of said wire, a curtain fastened to said rock shaft, and a cord connected to one end of the latter.

3. A fan apparatus for chairs, comprising clamping members adapted to be fastened to the back of a chair, an adjustable bar fastenecl to said clamping members, a wire bent upon itself and having eyes formed therein,

a pin carried by said bar and pivotally engaging said eyes, a portion of said Wire bent upon itself and serving to limit the pivotal movement of said wire, a rock shaft journaled at the ends of said wire, a curtain fastened to said rock shaft, one end of said shaft bent to form a crank and terminating in a handle with eye therein, and a cord connected to said handle.

4. A fan attachment for chairs comprising clamping jaws, resilient wires fastened thereto and bent to form clamps for engagement with the back of a chair, a bar adjustably held by said jaws, a pin projecting from said bar, a wire bent to form eyes pivotally mounted upon said pin and its central portion adapted to engage the edge of the bar to limit the pivotal movement of said wire in one direction, the endsof said wire terminating in hooks, a rock shaft journaled in the latter, a curtain fastened to said rock shaft, and a cord fastened to one end of the rock shaft.
