Be it known that I, MATIE O. MESSLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pawtucket, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in C01- lair-Supporters, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to stock or collar supporters and has for its objects, besides the ends commonly sought in this class of device, a capacity for yielding to accommodate the structure to any movement of the head or neck of the wearer without impairing its supporting properties; the capacity for iongitud'inal extension or contraction to any desired degree of adjustment; and to attain these ends in a simple and inexpensive structure.

To the above ends essentially my invention consists in the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter set forth,

and illustrated in the accompanying drawings wherein Figure 1 is a side elevation of my novel supporter, Fig. 2, a similar elevation, partially in central longitudinal section, of the upper portion of the same, and Fig. 3, a side elevation of a pin member.

Like characters of reference indicate like parts throughout the views.

The supporter comprises a tubular flexible body A consisting of a spirally wound Wire, each loop or coil, a, of the spiral being contiguous with the next adjacent loop. This arrangement of loops affords suflicient rigidity to insure stability of the body longitudinally without impairing such transverse or torsional movement of the body A as may be occasioned by any movement of the wearer. The adjacent coils or loops, a, form a continuous internal spiral groove 64. outer ends form inturned flanges 6. These caps protect the fabric from the wire ends, and shield the ends of the coil.

In both ends of the body A are extension members 0. As each member is similar in construction and operation a description of one only will be given. Each extension member O comprises a flexible tube formed of wire bent into contiguous coils or loops c, whose exteriors form a continuous spiral shoulder 0 adapted to register in the groove a. Upon the outer end of each extension member is a cap D whose body (Z is fixed by swaging or otherwise around the end coils and whose outer extremity is inturned to form a flange d. I Fastening devices are employed. In this case they consist of retaining pins E removably mounted in the members C. Each comprises a shank 6, preferably provided with corrugations, and terminating in a point 6 The upper end of the shank is bent outwardly at right angles as at 6 and carries a head F, which in this instance comprises a cup setting f in which ismounted a gem or ornament f.

The supporter is engaged or fastened to the collar by placing the body A upright against the front or back of the collar, and then inserting the pins E through the latter and into the ends of the extension members C where the pin is frictionally held.

It will be noted that the members 0 are longitudinally adjustable by virtue of the spiral groove and shoulder connections with the member A, so that by rotating the eX- tension members in one or the other direction, the length of the supporter may be adjusted to a collar or stock of any particular height. Furthermore the flexible or yielding character of the members A and G permits freedom of movement for the wearers head and neck without discomfort and without impairing the supporting properties of the device.

What I claim is 1. In a collar supporter, the combination of a tubular flexible body of spirally wound wire, tubular extension members of spirally wound wire rotatably mounted in said body, and fastening devices mounted in the extension members.
