To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, LAZARUS A. Pn'row, a citizen of the United States, residing at Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pyrotechnic Toys; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to an improved pyrotechnic toy adapted to be operated on the order of a pin wheel.

The object of the invention is to provide a coruscating candle with means for revolving it to produce fanciful effects.

Another object of the invention is to so construct a coruscating candle that the revolution thereof will produce the effect of a double ring of fire with sparks scintillating therefrom.

With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

In the accompanying drawings; Figure 1 represents a perspective view of one form of this improved toy, Fig. 2 is a similar view showing a slightly different form; and Fig. 3 is a detail transverse section through the sleeve forming the handle member.

In the embodiment illustrated in Fig. 1 a pyrotechnic toy is shown composed of a piece of wire bent intermediately of its ends to form a loop member 1 one end of the wire being preferably twisted around the body portion thereof at the end of the loop 1 as is shown at 2 and this loop member 1 is covered with a combustible coruscating composition such as is commonly used in devices of this character for producing when lighted a multitude of star-like sparks which scintillate in all directions therefrom. The handle member 3 is formed by extending the wire beyond the loop 1 and bending the free end thereof at an angle preferably at right angles with its terminal 1 bent inwardly to form a stop for a purpose to be described. A sleeve 5 is mounted on the bent end 4 and is preferably composed of wood or any other suitable insulating material to prevent the heat of the wire from being imparted to the hand of the operator. As shown clearly in Fig. 8 this sleeve is loosely mounted on the bent end 4 to permit the wire to turn freely therein and to provide for the ready turning or revolving of the toy when desired. In this form the handle member 4 is bent laterally to lie in the same plane as the members of the loop 1 whereby the rotation of the loop like member in the sleeve gives the appearance of a double ring when in operation.

In the form shown in Fig. 2 the construction is the same as that shown in Fig. 1 except that the angularly bent end 4: extends laterally in a plane at right angles to the plane occupied by the loop, whereby a different effect is given to the candle when revolved from that shown in Fig. 1.

By loosely mounting the coruscating candle in the sleeve 5 said sleeve may be grasped between the fingers of the operator and after the combustible material on the loop 1 has been lighted the weight of the material and of the wire will assist in the ready revolving of the toy.

From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying draw. ings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.

Various changes in the form, proportion and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention as defined in the appended claims.

I claim as my invention.

1. A coruscating candle comprising a wire having one end bent to form a loop and provided with a combustible composition and the other end bent at right angles and having a loosely mounted sleeve thereon.
