i To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, \VILLIAM P; MoCrlosinn, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Pittsburg: in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ferrule Valve and Tube Cleaning Devices, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing. This invention relates to a ferrule -valve and tube cleaning device, and the object of the invention is to provide simple and eifective means in a manner as will be hereinafter set forth for cleaning valves and'tubescontainingwater, steam, or other matter under pressure. e
My lnvention aims to provide a cleaning device that can be advantageously used for cleansing valves and cooks of water mains, without necessitating the shutting off of the pressure of water within the main and without. removing the valve or cook. To this end, I have devised a cleanslng device that is strong and durable, inexpensive to manufacture, easy to install, and eilicient for the pur poses for which it is intended.
The invention will be hereinafter specifically described and then claimed and reference will now be had to the drawing,

i 1 denotes a water main, and tapped into this main is'the lower threaded end 2 of a cock 3, said cock having a tapering plug 4: provided with a port '5. The upper end of the cock 3 is threaded, as at 6, and screwed upon the upper end of said cock is the lower enlarged end 7 of a barrel 8, said barrel having the upper end thereof reduced to provide a nipple ,9and the walls-of this nipple are exterior-1y screw threaded.
10 denotes a rod extending through the nipple-9 iiito the barrel 8, the lower endof the rod being spiral shaped, as at 11, and intermediate the ends of said rod and at the upper end of the spiral 11 is a head 12. De tachably mounted upon the upper cnd of the rod 10 is a suitable handle 13 whereby said rod can be easily manipulated.
Scrcwedalpon the nipple S-is the depending annular flange 14 of a cap 15 and this caphas the opening 16 thereof enlarged to provide an annular groove or seat 17 for a conical shaped gasket 18, preferably made of rubber. The gasket 18 is adapted to movably support the rod 10, whereby said rod can be adjusted longitudinally of the barrel 8 and can, be slightly vibrated oi" rocked within said barrel.
It is a well-known fact that the port 5 of a cock often becomes clogged with sediment and othermatter and to cleanse the same, it- IS only necessary to close the cock 3 by retating the plug 4 a quarter of a revolution.
a pipe is connected to the upper end of the cock it can be easily removed and the barrel 8 placed in position. The plug 4 can then be rotated to place the port 5 in longi tudinal alincmcnt with the barrel 8. The. spiral end of the rod 10 can then be pushed into the port- 5 and moved back and forth therein or rockedgradually to get the sediment and other matter from the port 5. The gasket 18 permits of the rod 10 being freely movedwhile the water is under pressure within the barre'l.8, and it is the pressure of water-that assists in removing the sediment ,or incrustations on the walls of the port 5 after it is loosened by the spiral 11 of the rod 10. After the port 5 has been cleansed the rod 110 can be pulled upwardly, the cock 3 closed, the barrel 8 removed and conlnections niadcwilh the upper end of tho coc The device in its entirety can be made of light and durable metal and of various sizes according to its use, and while in the drawings there is illustrated a preferred embodiment of the invention, it. is to be under stood that the structural elements are susceptible to such changes as fall within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim, is:
