MEANS FOR SUPPORTING STRETGHERS IN AMBULANCES.

Be it known that I, Jnssn T. SHEETS, a citizen of the United States of America, and resident of Covington, Kenton county, State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Means for Supporti Stretchers in Ambulances, of which the following is a specification.

The object of my invention is a means of swinging or supporting a stretcher 1n the Ordinary patrol wagon or ambulance, by which the injured person is carried with reater comfort to himself, a physician or surgeonis enabled to work with him with eater ease,.and others who have sustained minor injuries may also be conveniently carried in the Wagon at the same time.

In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 i a rear elevation of a patrol wagon, show i the stretcher embodying my invention in POSition. Fig.' 2 is a plan view of the atrolwagon, with the roof removed and howing the stretcher in position, with portions of the cloth cut away to show the brackets. Fig. 3 is a central sectional view f the spring cylinder or dash pot. Fig. 4 i a detail view, upon a large scale, of the bracket which supports the stretcher. Fig. 5 is a perspective view, showing the bracket and spring cylinder in place and the bracket swung parallel to the seat to facilitate the convenient handling of the stretcher. Fig. 6 is a perspective view showing the bracket and spring cylinder in place and the bracketwung into position for the reception of the stretcher.

The operation of the device is as follows: The patient is placed on the stretcher and the brackets are placed in a position parallel with the seat. The stretcher is then carried into the patrol and the brackets are swung into position to receive the rods of the stretcher. The spring (a') prevents the jarring of the vehicle from disturbing the patient. Spring (a takes up any re action of spring thus rendering the movement of the stretcher more even. When not in use brackets, B, are lifted ofi of rods (a I do not desire to be confined to the eXact details shown, but aim in my claims to cover all modifications which do not involve a departure from the spirit and scope of my invention.

What I claim is:

1. In an ambulance having side seats, the combination of stretcher supporting brackets, each bracket being provided with arms for engaging-both sides of the stretcher, and means located adjacent to one of the seats of the ambulance and below said arms for yieldingly supporting said brackets.

2. In an ambulance having side seats, the combination of stretcher supporting brackets each bracket being provided with arms for engaging both sides of a stretcher, and

means adjacent to one of the seats of the ambulance for yieldingly supporting each bracket, so that one arm of each bracket projects over the adjacent seat.

8. In an ambulance having a longitudinal seat, cylinders mounted adjacent to said seat, a vertically extending rod yieldingly mounted in each cylinder, and a stretcher supporting bracket, provided with divergent arms 'for engaging both sides of a stretcher, rotatively mounted on each rod.
