To all whom i 'may concern:
le .it known that l, Pinmr A. Myers, a citizen of the United States, residing at shland, in the county of Ashland and State of hio, have invented certain new and useful lmprovements in Pump Stands, of which. the following is a specification, refer ence being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to pump stands, and the object otl the same is to provide means for connecting a pump handle to the body portion of the pump inldierent positions relatively to the discl'iarge spout; to so connect the handle and the handle bearer to the body portion of the pump as to enable them to be moved out of alinement with the body portion of the pump and thus permit the pump-rod and the pumping devices carried thereby to be withdrawn through the body portion of the pump; and further, to so connect the brace to the pump-stand that the thrust of the handle comes direct-ly upon the brace.
lVith these objects in view my invention consists in certain novel features of construction and in certain combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter to be described, and then more particularly pointed out in the claims.
ln the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a vertical, sectional view, taken centrally of a pump stand embodying my invention; Fig. 2 is a transverse, sectional view, taken on the line a ai of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is transverse, sectional view taken on the line y y of Fig. 1; Fig. l is a transverse, sectional view, taken through the neck of the body portion of a modified form of the invention; Fig. 5 is a side elevation of the modification shown in Fig. ll; and Fig. 6 is a side elevation of a :further modification of the invention.
lin these drawings l have illustrated one embodiment of my invention and have shown the same as comprising a body portion 1, of ordinary construction, having the usual discharge spout 2. A pump-rod 8 Aextends through the body portion 1 and through a stalling-box l in a removable closure or cap 5, which is secured to the upper end of the body portion 1 of the pump. The opening in the upper end of the body portion is of a diameter sufficient t0 permit the pumprod and the pumping devices carried thereby to be removed through the same.
A handle bearer 6 '1s ad3ustably mounted on the body portion l in such a manner that l it can be secured to the body portion in ditiferent positions relatively to the discharge spout 2, thereby causing the discharge spout to extend at 'the desired angle to the position of the handle. The handle bearer (3 may be secured to the body portion 1 in any suitable manner, and, in TFigs. l, Q and 3, I have shown the body portion as provided with two series of lugs arranged one above the other, each series comprising three lugs, one of which is secured to that side ot' the body portion opposite the discharge spout 2 and the other two of which are secured to opposite sides of the body portion at substantially right angles to the first-mentioned lug. The handle bearer G `is substantially U- shaped in cross section and the lugs 7 ft between the two sides thereorn and are secured thereto by means of pins 8 which extend through the two sides oit the handle bearer and through the respective lugs. The lower end of the handle bearer 6 has an outwardly extending projection or foot 9, upon which is pivotally mounted an oscillator 10. This oscillator extends upwardly to a point above the top of the body portion 1 and has pivotally connected thereto the pump-handle 11. The upper end of the handle bearer G is slotted, as shown at 12, and that portion of the handle 11, which lies beyond the point of connection to the oscillator 10, extends through the slot l2 and connected to the pump-rod 3. ln the present instance the handle 11 is connected to a windmill-rod 13, which, in turn, is connected to the pump-rod 3, but, obviously, the connection between the pump-rod and the handle could be made in any suitable manner. T he upper end ot' the handle bearer 6 is turned inwardly, as shown at 14;, and provided with an opening through which extends the windmill-rod 18 and which forms a guide for this rod and for the upper end ot the pump-rod 3.
A l'"shaped stop 15 extends outwardly from the handle bearer 6, at a point near the point of connection of said handle bearer to the body portion, through the bifurcated lower end of the oscillator 10 and forms a stop to limit the outward movement of this oscillator and a'lso forms a bumper to limit the inward movement of the handle 11. The lower ends of the two arms of the bifurcated oscillator 10 are arranged on opposite sides of the foot 9 of the handle bearer and are connected thereto by means of a pin 1G which extends through the two arms of the oscillator and through the foot 9. This foot is preferably slotted or bifurcated at its lower end and the upper end of the brace 17 is arranged in said slot and is secured therein by means of the pin 1G which passes through the upper end of the brace. rthe lower end of the brace extends downwardly and outwardly and is connected to the supporting platform in the usual manner. It will be apparent that this construction is such as to cause the thrust of the handle and oscillator to be exerted directly upon the brace 1'7 and upon the base, thus making a very rigid stand and one well adapted to deep well work. 1t will further be apparent that, by removing the pin 8, by means of which the handle bearer G is connected to the lug T of the upper series, and by disconnecting the windmill-rod 13 from the pump-rod 3, their handle bearer and'handle can be swung outwardly so that the upper ends will be moved out of alinenient with the body portion 1, thereby enabling the pumprod and the parts carried thereby to be moved upwardly and withdrawn through said body portion. 1t will also be observed that the handle bearer G is in fact a standard having the additional function of guiding the pump rod at a point above the body portion and that it will perform this function regardless of the position which it may occupy circumferentially of the body portion.
In Figs. a and 5 of the drawings I have shown a slightly modified form of the invention, in which the upper end or neck of the body portion has mounted thereon a collar 18 which is adjustably secured thereto by means of a set screw 19. The collar 18 is open at one side and has its ends extending outwardly, as shown at 20, and arranged on opposite sides of the handle bearer 6, to which it is secured by means of a bolt 21. By means of this arrangement the handle bearer can be moved to any point about the circumference of the body portion and rigidly secured in position by tightening down the set screw and fastening the collar to the body portion. This construction affords a neater appearing pump in that it dispenses with the lugs at the neck of the body portion. The same construction may be applied to the lower part of the body portion, if desired.
In Fig. 6 1 have shown a further modification of the invention, in which the handle bearer G is cast integral with the collar, the collar being preferably secured to the body portion by casting the same in position thereon. Obviously, with this form of the device the handle bearer could not be swung outwardly, as with the other forms, but with this exception the operation of the device is the same.
The operation of the invention will be readily understood from the foregoing description and it will be apparent that by mounting the handle bearer upon the proper lug 7 the handle can be arranged either in alinement with or at the desired angle to the discharge spout of the pump, thus causing the discharge spout to extend in the desired direction from the aperture.
llfrhile 1 have shown and described certain modifications of my invention 1 wish it to be understood that 1 do not desire to be limited to the details of construction shown and described, as other modifications will be obvious to one skilled in the art.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A pump of the character described comprising a body portion, a discharge spout therefor, a handle bearer connected to said body portion at two points, said points of connection being arranged at different heights, a handle supported by said handle bearer, and means for laterally adjusting said points of connection relatively to said discharge spout.
2. A pump of the character described comprising a body portion having two series of lugs secured thereto, the corresponding lugs of each series being arranged one above the other, a discharge spout for said body portion, a handle bearer, means for securing said handle bearer to said lugs, and a handle supported by said handle bearer.
3. A pump of the character described comprising a body portion, a discharge spout therefor, a handle bearer extending above said body portion and having a guideway therein, a handle supported by said handle bearer and extending to a point above said body portion, and means for so connecting said handle bearer to said body portion that the upper end of the handle carried thereby can be moved out of alinement with said body portion.

A pump of the character described comprising a body portion, a handle bearer movably mounted on said body portion in a manner to permit the lateral displacement of the upper end thereof, a connection between said body portion and said handle bearer to normally prevent the lateral displacement of the latter, and a handle supported by said handle bearer.
5. A pump of the character described comprising a body portion having two lugs secured thereto at dierent heights, a discharge spout for said body portion, a handle bearer pivotally connected to the lowerinost of said lugs and detachably connected to the uppermost of said lugs and extending to a point above said body portion, and a handle supported by said handle bearer.
6. A pump comprising a body portion, a handle bearer having its lower end pivotally connected to said body portion, means for connecting said handle bearer to said body portion at a point above its pivotal connection thereto, an oscillator mounted on said handle bearer, and a handle carried by said oscillator.
7. A pump comprising a body portion, a handle bearer pivotally mounted on said body portion, means for holding said handle bearer normally against movement about its pivotal center, a brace ha fing its upper end connected to the lower portion of said handle bearer, an oscillator having its lower end pivotally connected to the adjacent portion of said handle bearer, and a handle carried by said oscillator.
8. A pump of the character described comprising a body portion havii'ig two lugs arranged at different heights, a discharge spout for said body portion, a handle bearer connected to said lugs and having an outwardly extending projection at the lower end thereof, the projection having a slot therein, a brace having its upper end arranged in said slot, an oscillator having its lower end bifurcated and extending on opposite sides of said projection, a pin extending through the arms of said oscillator, said projection and said brace, and a handle mounted on said oscillator.
9. A pump of the character described comprising a body portion having two series of lugs, t-he corresponding lugs of each series being arranged one above the other, a discharge spout for said body portion, a handle bearer pivotally connected to one of the lugs of the lowermost series and detachably connected to the corresponding lug of the upper series and having an outwardly extending projection, said projection having a slot therein, a brace having its upper end arranged within said slot, a bifurcated oscillator having its arms arranged on opposite sides of said projection, a pin for connecting said brace and said oscillator to said projection, and a handle mounted on said oscillator.
l0. A pump of the character described comprising a body portion having two series of lugs secured thereto and arranged at differentheights, a discharge spout for said body portion, a handle bearer, .means for securing said handle bearer to said lugs, and a handle supported by said handle bearer.

A pump of the character described comprising a body portion, a discharge spout therefor, a pump rod, a standard connected to said body portion at two points and extending above said body portion to form a guide for said pump rod, said points ol connection being arranged at ditl'ercnt heights, a handle connected with said pump rod, and means for laterally adjusting said standard and said handle relatively to said spout.

A pump of the character described comprising a body portion having two series of lugs secured thereto and arranged at dit ferent heights, a discharge spout for said body portion, a pump rod, and a standard detachably secured to one lug of each series and extending above said body portion to torni a guide for said pump rod.
