To all whom it may concern:
' Be it known that I, JOHN C. KNAPP, Jr.', a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Pipe-Mold, of which the following is a specification.
It is the object of the present invention to provide a simple and durable culvert mold which will be capable of withstanding a maximum degree of pressure and which may be readily removed when the material which is packed around it has become hardened.
. It is customary, in most instances, to pro-' vide a culvert mold of thisclass in which the wall of the-mold is comprised of but a single sheet of metal bent into substantially cylindrical form and with its opposite longitudinal edges overlapped. It has been found however, by practical experience, that a mold of this construction is frequently difficult to remove from the mass of'material owing to the fact that all portions of its walls are not simultaneously adjusted to the same degree.
g It is therefore the object of the present invention to provide a mold of the class so ccolnstructed that after the material, packed around the mold, has hardened, it may be readily collapsed orcjbntracted and withi pleted culvert.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 1s a vertical longitudinal sectional view of a.
mold constructed in accordance with the present invention. Fig, .2 is a Vertical trans line 2-2 of Fig. 1, and, Fig. 3 is a detail view artly in elevation and partly in section-slowing the manner of supporting the mold section from the adjusting rod or shaft of the mold.
As heretofore stated, the mold embodying the present invention is made up of a plu rality of arcuate sections and while, in the drawings, these sections are shown'as four in number, it will be understood that any desired number may be employed;

As shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings, each of the upper of the plate 5, indicated more specifically by the numeral 5", has its edge portions ofl'set as at 9 to-atford side flangesand in assembling this section with the two side sections of the mold, indicated each specifically by the reference character 5', these flanges 9-01" ofiset edge portions overlap the upper edge portions of said sides, as clearly shown in the said Fig. 2 of the drawing. Similarly, the lower edge portions of the side sections 5* are offset, as at 10 and overlap the side edges of the bottom section of the mold, indicated specifically by the reference character 5, it being understood that all of the sections when assembled in the manner stated, afi'ord'a cylindrical core, the outer surface of which is practically unbroken and smooth.
As clearly shown in Fig. 2 of the draw ings, there are formed or secured at both ends of the several flanges 8 of the section 5, extensions 11 which overlap the opposed ends of the corresponding fianges of the sections 5 and these sections 5 are provide-l also at their lower ends with similar exten sions 12 which overlap the extremities of the corresponding flanges 8 of the bottom section 53 of the mold, it being understood that by this means, relative longitudinal. movement of the mold section is effectually obvi ated. Furthermore, in this connection, it will be observed upon inspection of Fig. l of the drawings that the flanges or ribs of the mold section on one sidool the middle of the mold havetheir flanges 6 presented in one direction whereas, the corresponding flanges to the other side of the middle of the mold are presented in the opposite direction. so; that relative longitudinal movement in either direction is prevented.
