Specification of Letters Patent.
Jcatented MayS, 1961 Application filed January 8. 1906. Serial N01 295.179.
I .To all whom, t may concern.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM II. LUoAs, a
citizen of the United States, residing at Newark, in the county of Licking and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mold-Tops; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in molds for making cisterns, catch-basins, and the like from concrete or other plastic material, and more particularly to a top for molds of this character.
The object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which will be of compact, durable, and comparatively inexpenslve construction. A
With the above and other objects in view the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a detail vertical sectional view through the upper portion of a concrete cistern-mold, having its top constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the top of the mold, and Fig. 3 is a perspective view of one of the top sections of the mold.
Referring to the drawings by numeral, 1 denotes the body portion of a mold, which may be of cylindrical or other form and constructed in any vsuitable or preferred manner, and 2 denotes my improved top, which consists of a plurality of tapered or wedgeshaped plates 3, of metal. These plates are preferably, but not necessarily, of sheet-steel, and they are arranged around the top of the body 1 so that their converging side edges overlap each other, as shown at 4, so that each plate braces the plate which is next adjacent thereto. The lower or broad ends of per edge of the body and are retained thereon by angle-metal stops 5, which are riveted or otherwise secured, as clearly shown in the drawings. The small upper ends of the top mold-sections 3 are supported by a disk or head 6, which is adjustably mounted upon a vertical support or upright 7, arranged centrally in the mold. This supporting-head 6 may be of any desired form and construction, but as shown consists of an annular band or ring 8, supported by inclined braces 9 from a rectangular frame 10, which latter slides upon the upright 7, which is also of rectangular form in cross-section. The adjustment of said head is preferably formed by passing a supporting-pin or the like 11 through any one of a vertically-arranged series of openings or apertures 12, formed in the post 7, as clearly shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings. The neck or mouth of the cistern may be formed in any desired manner; but I preferably provide inner and outer. cylindrical collars or tubes 13 14, the former of which is supported concentrically upon the up er ends of the sections or plates 3 of the mo d-top.
The construction, use, and advantages of the invention will be readily understood from the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings. By making the top mold-sections 3 of sheetmetal pla-tes, as shown, a very strong, durable, and compact top is provided for the mold. It may be quickly and easily applied to or removed from the body of the mold and the supporting-head 6.
Various changes in the form, proportion, and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention as defined by the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is*
1. .In a mold of the character described, the combination with a body and a central support or upright therein, of a top composed of a plurality of wedge-shaped metal plates arranged around said body andeach having one side overlapping the adjacent side of the next adjacent plate, so that said plates brace one another, angle-metal stops upon the under side of said plates at their lower ends for supporting them upon the u per edge of said body, and a head upon sai upright for supporting the upper and inner ends of said plates, substantially as described.
2. In a mold of the character described, the combination with a body and a central support or upright therein, of a top composed of a plurality of wedge-shaped metal plates arranged around said body andneach having one side overlapping the adjacent side of the next adjacent plate, so that said plates brace one another, angle-metal stops IOC IIO
