Be it known that l, Encan linnn, a citi,- Zen of Bavaria, and residing at lViirr/lburg, Germany, have invented a new and useful Fly-Paper Package, of which the following 2 is a specification.

It has heretofore been proposed to employ as a fly catching device, a spool or roll having thereon a strip of paper or other material provided with suitable adhesive ma terial for the purpose of attracting or catching flies and other insects and means have heretofore been provided for preventing the adhesive material from exudingl from the spool or package, such as the application of sealing wax or the like to the edges of the strip. It has also been proposed to construct the strip provided with the adhesive material, of varying width in cross-section to enable the same to be readily rolled or unrolled. ln these devices as heretofore constructed, there has also been a liability of the lingers becoming sticky or smeared with the adhesive material in the act of nnrolling the strip and my present invention is designed especially to enable a fly paper package of the several characters above described, to be shipped and packed in such condi. tion that the adhesive material will not eX- ude therefrom by reason of a cover w .ich is applied exteriorly to the entire device in the form of a sheath or cylinder.

The other feature of my invention is to provide a tab or reinforcement strip for the lower end of the fly catching strip, the same comprising a backwardly turned tab, having no adhesive material thereon, whereby the device can be readily rolled up or unrolled without the fingers of the user becoming smeared or sticky from the adhesive material.

To the above ends my invent-ion consists of a novel construction of a fly paper pack age having the characteristics above enumerated.

For the purpose of illustrating my invention, l have shown in the accompanying drawings one form thereof which is at present preferred by me, since the same has been found in practice to give satisfactory and reliable results, although it is to be understood that the various instrumentalities of which my invention consists can be variously arranged and organized and that my invention is not limited to the precise ar- Specicaton of Letters Patent.

ln preparing the package for shipment or sale, in order to prevent the adhesive matefial from exuding around the walls 3 I employ the cylindrical, sheath or cover l1 which adapted to rather tightly inclose or engage the walls 3 and to be secured thereto by adhesive material, if desired, the ends of said sheath terminating about flush with the outer faces of the walls 3. The function of the sheath or cover ll is to enable the package to be readily boxed and shipped into any climate without permitting the adhesive material to escape from the strip I and exude from the edges thereof over the walls 3, and when it is desired to obtain access to the device so as to use the same, it is only necessary to remove the sheath by the application of slight longitudinal pressure thereon, whereupon by disengaging the tab 9 from the position seen in Fig. 4L into the position seen in Fig. 2, which can be readily done by the finger or finger nail of the user, the strip 4 can be readily unrolled into the position seen in Figs. 2 and t, without the hands of the user becoming smeared or sticky. In devices of this character, as heretofore constructed, wherein other expedients have been employed for sealing the edges of the strip having the adhesive material applied thereto, there is a liability of the. sealing material becoming soft in warm countries or being knocked out of position, in which case the adhesive material is liable to exude from the edges of the strip as I have before explained. In my present device the inclosing sheath or cover can be readily applied in the manner described and its outer portion have printed or advertising matter thereon, if desired. The lower end of the fiy catching strip being reinforced in the manner described and provided with the tab or finger piece, enables the device to be readily unrolled while the liability of any damage owing to the adhesive material exuding or appearing during shipment is reduced to a minimum and the device can be readily placed in operative position without the hands of the user becoming smeared with the adhesive material, as is evident.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

l. As a new article of manufacture, a fly paper package consisting of a body portion having end walls, a strip of adhesive material secured to said body portion and rolled thereon, a folded finger piece of non-adhesive nature connected with the end of said strip and adapted to be rolled therewith on said body portion, and a sealing sheath or cover adapted to completely inclose the adhesive material and extend between and completely across the end heads of said body portion, whereby said adhesive material is contained on said strip and within said end heads and with said finger piece folded on the roll and completely enveloped by said sheath.

2. In a fly catcher, a strip having adhesive material thereon, a reinforcing member secured to the extremity of said strip 4, and a reinforcing member 8 secured'to said member 7 and bent around the lower terminus 10 of said strip T and upwardly against the back of said strip 4 to form. the tab or finger piece 9, the latter being adapted to be readily disengaged from said strip i and having no adhesive material applied thereto.

3. In a. fly catcher, a spool, a rolled strip of insect-catching material thereon, and a tubular sheath adapted to inclose said spool from end to end of the heads thereof and resting upon said heads and the rolled strip.
