To all whom it may camera:
Be it known that I, FRANCIS L. OBRYAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at South F ramingham, in the county of MiddleseX and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ticket-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to ticket holders for railway cars, and my object is to provide a device of this class which, while simple in construction, may be easily at tached to the back of a car seat, will permit of a ticket being easily inserted and withdrawn, and will securely hold the ticket against accidental displacement.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of part of a car seat with my improvements applied. Fig. 2 shows a longitudinal central section through my improved ticket holder. Fig. 3 is an end view thereof. Fig. 4 shows a transverse section on the line 4 l: of Fig. 2.

The spring is curved longitudinally, as shown, its upper ends 6 being arranged considerably above the lower central portion 6. The ends of the tube are closed by plugs c which are preferably riveted to the tube as indicated and these plugs have feet 0' adapted to rest on the top of the seat back. The
ends 6 are perforated and receive screws D. These screws extend loosely through holes (Z in the bottom of the tube and holes 6 are made in the top of the tube just over the holes (Z.
In assembling the parts, after the spring is inserted in the tube, the plugs c are attached and then the screws D are inserted through the holes 6, passed through the holes in the ends of the spring and also passed through the holes d in the bottom of the tube. In this condition the holder is adapted to be attached to a seat back and this maybe done by inserting a suitable tool, such as a small screwdriver, through the holes 6 and turning the screws until the holder is firmly attached to the seat back with the feet 0 pressed against the top of' the back. Then this is done the holder will appear as shown in Fig. 1. If a ticket is pressed against the lower portion of the tube it will force the latter upward against the pressure of the spring 2) within the tube because the spring will be held down by the screws while the tube will rise against the pressure of the spring to the desired extent. A continuous and suflicient pressure is exerted on the ticket while beneath the tube to prevent its accidental displacement but will permit its withdrawal when desired.
I claim as my invention:
1. ticket holder, comprising a tube, a leaf spring within the tube having its middle portion engaging the lower portion of the tube and having perforated ends above the level of the middle portion, screws extending through the perforated ends and loosely through the bottom of the tube, and plugs in the ends of the tube having feet adapted to rest on the top of a seat back.
2. A ticket holder, comprising a hollow body portion, a spring arranged within it and having its middle portion engaging the lower part of the body portion, and screws engaging the ends of the spring extending loosely through the bottom of the body portion and adapted to engage the top of the seat back.
3. A ticket holder, comprising a tube having screw holes at opposite ends 011 its upper and lower sides, screws extending loosely through the holes in the bottom of the tube, and a spring within the tube and engaging the lower portion of the tube and the screws.
