OSCAR H. NEIMAN, OF FREEPRT, .'{LLINDt LUBRIGA'TOR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented leh. 253i, Eiwit L Application filed May l1, 1910. Serial lilo. 560,71.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, OSCAR Il. NinMANya.
citizen ot thc United States, residing at Freeport, in` the county of Stephenson and State of Illinois, have .invented ycertain new and useful improvements lin Luhricators; and l do-hcrehy declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable other skilled in the art to which it appcrtains to malte and use the saine.
This invention relates to force feed lubricators provided with. slidable pistons for ejecting construction and combination of the parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.
ln the drawings, Figure 1 is a longitudinal section through the luhricator. Fig. 2 is a front end view of the lubrica-tor. Fig. 3 is a detail view of the piston, partly in section. Fig. 4 is an interior vieW ofthe rear end of the iubr' fator.
A is a cylinder for holding the grease.
`B is a conical cap or cover provided with an annular groove Z1 which fits over the front end of the cylinder A. A packing b is placed in the groove for the end of the cylinder to hear against.
C are bolts pivoted by' pins o to lugs c' on the cylilnler.` rihese bolts are provided With thumlooiuts'l) and the)r pass through a hole c and a .slot e in lugs t.: which project from the cover. E, and hohl Vthe cover tightly against the cylinder and so that it. can ea il)r he removed to till thecyljnder with grease.
E is a spout which is screwed into the cover B.
F is a plate secured to the other end of the cylinder from the cover, s0 as to close the cylinder, hot without making it airtight. This .plate is provided with a guide f.
G is a piston-rod formed of a screw which Works in theguide and which is provided with an operai'ing-handle or Wheel g on its end outside the cylinder.
H is a piston disk which' is provided with a huh Ii which journalcd on a bearing Lf at .the other endy of the piston-rod from its handle, between a shoulder 2' and ay pin or stop 27. n
l is n cup-leathcr, j is awasher, and j are holts which secure the ci-ip-lcather and Washer to the piston disk il.
if is a spring split ring arrai'igei'l inside the cupfleather lietween its cylindrical portions grease; and it consists in the novel and the periphery oit the disk, and which holds the cup-leather against Ithe cylinder wall. This piston is specially constructed so thatit is greasetight and so that it will .work freeli7 and with as little friction as oossible. l A
The plate F has a' lever L pivoted to it at. one end bya pin m, and a half-nut m :formed on the middle part of this lever and 1s arranged to engage with the screw G, the guide f hein@f cutaway on one side to accom'- inodate the half-nut.
N is a spring arranged between the free end portion of the lever L and a lug u onI 'the plate F, and operating to move the haltnut onty of engagement with the screw.
i) isan eccentric pivoted to the plate 'F by a pin p and operating to hold the halfnut in engagement with the screw when placed in the position shown in Fig. 4.
The parts L, N and n are arranged Aon the inside face of the plate F, and the pla F has a hole f through which the scetional-nut m is arranged to project so that it. .may work in the notch in the. guide and be engaged loyf the eccentric l which is pivoted against the outside face or" the plate'F.
The grease is ejected from the cylinder by revolving the screw; and the cover is freed and swung around h v removing one holt and loosening the other holt, to pcrinitthe cyl inder to he refilled 'with grease. The haiinut, is disengaged from the screwto permit the piston to he drawn back quickly, by turning the eccentric ont of engagement :with the lever.
What lf claim is:
l. In a Iuliricator, the combination, with a cylinder for grease, of a rcvoluhle pistonrod provided With means for revolving it to force ont the grease from the cylinder, and a non-revoluhle piston journaled loose onl one end portion oft-he piston-r0d and co1nprising a disk, a cup-leather secured to the disk, and a spring split-ring which presses the cylindrical part' of the cup-leather against the cylinder. v
2. ln a luhricator, the combination, with a cylinder or grease having a plate at one end provided with ay cylindrical guide, said guide having a notch on one side and the said plate having` a hole adjacent to the notch, of a,screwthrcaded piston-rml slidable 'in the said guide, a. piston operated hy the said plston-ro'd, a lever pivoted against :mged 1n signature in the presence of two witnesses.
' with a scctionalmut which v1s rr thu wid notch and hole, :n1 eccentric pivoted OSC "R H NEl-M 'XY againsttheA outer side of the said plate und 5 operating bo place the nut in engagement \Vtnesses:
