Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRISON B. WALTER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Danville, in the county of Vermilion and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Boxes, of which the following is a specification.

In the present invention, I entirely dispense with the use of glue. When a box is provided with an overlapping flap or projection which is pasted to the mat or body portion, it is possible for a designing person to carefully raise the flap with a case-knife, or other tool, extract a portion of the contents, and-paste the fiap again in position, thus leaving no readily visible external sign of such pilfering.
It is the object of my present invention to provide a box which it is im ossible to open without destroying a part 0 the same, tearing off the metal caps, or otherwise defacing the package, so that the opening of the same is readily detected. \Vhen, therefore, the lid of myprese'nt box is pulled down, and the projecting edge of the mat with the attached locking strips is fitted into position, the flaps placed in position over the screw plug, and the metal cap is attached and sealed with a special tool provided for the purpose, it becomes impossible to open the box and again close it without the fact be- .ing detected.
With these objects in view, my resent invention consists in certain novel eatures of construction and combinations of parts which will be hereinafter described and pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings :Figure 1 is a view in perspective of one end of the box, showing the parts closed, but not sealed; Fig. 2 is a sectional view on the line 2-2 of Fi 1.
I"he box is, in the. ain, com 'osed of a sheet of straw or asteboard, olded into four parts to form t e sides 1 and 2, the bot-' tom 3, and the top or lid 4, and at each end the triangular end flaps 5, 5, are secured, these being adapted to overlap at the center, and provided with registering orifices 6, 6, adapted to receive the seal 7 when together.
Theouter edge of the lid l is provided with a down-turned flap 11 which extends preferably the length of the box overlapping the upper edge of the front side 1, and a filling strip 12 back of it abuts against the upper edge of the front, when the lid is closed, thus continuing out the front as it were, to the lid, and forming a solid top. A facing strip 13 extends inside this lid flap to the lower edge of the latter so that the upper edge of the frontside 1 of the box is received between the lid flap and this facing strip, and by means of the two, and the sealing of the end flap, it precludes the possibility of gaining entrance to the inside of the box after it is once closed, without first breaking some part asunder in order to do so.
More or less slight changes might be made in the form and arrangement of the several parts described without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention, and hence I do not wish to be limited-to the exact construction herein set forth, but
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A box comprising sides, bottom and lid, the lidhaving a front flap, which flap is provided on its rear with a filling and a facing strip, the upper edge of the front of the box adapted to be received between the flap proper and the facing strip, the filling strip abutting thereagainst and acting as a stop to limit the downward movement of the lid when the box is closed, the sides each provided with an overlapping flap, and means for sealing the end flaps together.
