To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that l, hlAn'riN (llavrxnn, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of \Vaterloo, Blackhawk county,

lowa, have invented certain new and useful 1mprovemcnts in lElorsc-(lollar Pads, of which the 'liollowing is a specification.

My invention relates to improvemcnts in horse-collar pads, and the object o'lf my improvement is to furnish an easily 't'ormed pad constructed to tit about the neck and over the shoulders of a horse on the under side of a collar, the pad being made to lit by the peculiar cut of its parts when united together properly.

This object I have acctmiplished by the means which are hereinafter fully described and claimed, and which are illustrated in the accon'ipanying drawings, in which Figure l is a side elevation of a completed pad, whose parts are connected medially to hang upon the neck of a horse. l ig. 2 is a perspective view of said pad, arranged to display the peculiar form and roll thcrcolf'. Fig. 3 is a view of one of the outer covering pieces used on the pad shown in Fig. 1, and Fig. t is a view of one of the inner covering pieces used on the same pad. Fig. 5 is a side elevation of one of the smaller or side pads, t'ori'ning one of a pair not connected together. Fig. (3 is an edge view of the pad shown in Fig. 5, displaying its peculiar reversed roll. F 7 is a plan of one of the coverin pieces of the pad shown in .liig. 5, while Fig. 8 is a plan view of the other covering piece of the same pad.

Similar characters of reference refer to similar parts throughout the several views.

I seek, in my in'iproved pad, to effect my object of properly forming it by the simplestmeans. This is in uniting at their overlapped edges the covering pieces a. and Z) to form the double pad shown in F 1, and the pieces (Z and e to form the other pad shown in Fig. 5. The pad 7', however, is. as shown. made to lit under one side of a horse-collar, to which it may be rcmovably attached by means of spring-clips The essence of my invention resides in the peculiar cut of the coveririg-pieces (a and I), or 1/ and 1', respectively, whereby, when their edges are united together, to :torm a sack, and the sack then stutl'ed and llal'tcned out, the pad thus 'lormed will have a peculiar and necessary contour adapting it for use in fitting about the neck of a horse under a collar. 'lhis contour may be best seen in the views in Figs, 2 and (3, wherein is shown the pccular hclicoidal form of the pad. A twist is imparted to the pad by reason of the uniting ot the edges of the covering-pieces made in the forms shown, when the stulling has been done and the pad 'llattened out by the ('iperator. The construction involves a considerable saving of labor over the usual method of forming such pads, and consequent economy of cost.
