To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, JAMES B. SEAGER, a. citizen of the United States of America, residing at Lansing, State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improve.- ments in Carbureters, of which the following is a specification, reference being had thereinto the accompanying drawings.
Thezinvention relates to carbureters designed for use in connection with explosion engines and of the type provided with a reservo-ir for the liquid fuel, and 'in which a substantially constant level is maintained.
eretofore various constructions of carbureters of this type have been devised which have been provided with means for maintaining a constant level in the reservoir such, for instance, as float controlled valves for regulating the supply. Other constructions lave been provided with mechanically actuated pumps for supplying the liquid fuel to the reservoir with an overflow and return connection for the propelled fuel.
It is the object of the present invention to obtain a construction in which a constant level is ermanently and automatically maintained in the reservoir without necessitating either float valves, mechanical pumps, or other mechanically actuated mechanism for controlling the supply.
To this end the invention consists in the construction in which the liquid fuel is by suction from the carbureter or its actuating means, such as the engine, to which it is attached, and further in the peculiar construction and arrangement of parts as hereinafter set forth.
In the drawlngs my improvement is illustrated diagrammatically in vertical central section, in which A represents a carburetor of any suitable construction, B the suction conduit leading to the engine or other suc-. tion means, 0 the discharge nozzle forthe liquid fuel, and D the reservoir for supply-. in fuel to said nozzle.

For causing the flow of the liquid fuel through the conduit F a suction connection is provided for the reservoir D and, as shown, this consists of a conduit L connectq ing the upper portion of the reservoir D with the interior of the carburetor casing A. This will result in producing a partial vacuum in the reservoir D during each suction stroke of the engine permitting atmosplheric pressure upon the liquid in the tank ;to force a flow upward through the conduct F and into the compartment I. With the restoration of the normal pressure in the reservoir D, the flow through the conduit F ceases,.but the check valve Gr prevents the return'of the fluid in said conduit. The .surplus fluid supplied to the compartment I will overflow the partition H, and will be returned b gravit through the conduit K to the tan T is conduit K also contains a check valve M which closes dur ing. the suction stroke and prevents the drawing of the liquid upward through the conduit K.
The above described construction is entirely automatic in its operation, as has been set forth, and is one which dispenses with all mechanically actuated mechanisms for forcing or controlling the supply of the liquid fuel.
As in the operation of the carbureter, a liquid is discharged from the nozzle 0 by the differential pressure,'it is necessary that the pressure upon the surface of the liquid in the reservoir D should be greater than at the discharge end of the nozzle. This is accomplished with the specific construct-ion shown by arranging the discharge t a higher level than the reservoir D, but it nozzle in a contracted portion of the suction conduit, while the connection L to the reservoir D is in the expanded portion of said conduit. Thus while both the carbureing liquid thereto,
ter and the reservoir are, simultaneously connected to the' same source of suctlon there will always be the necessary differen-- and means for supplying liquid to said reservoir solely by the suction of the suction producing means of the carbureter.

The combination with a carbureter of the suction type, of. a reservoir for liquid, a discharge conduit leading from said reservoir to said carbureter, a conduit for sup-- plying liquid to said reservoir from a source at a lower level, and means for feedmg the liquid through said supply conduit by the suction of the suction producing means of the carbureter.
