HERMAN SCHWICKART, 0F BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
BLOCK-HOLDER FOR FIREPROOF CONSTRUCTION.
Specification of Letters IEatent.
Application filed May 17, 1910. Serial No. 561,814.
Patented net. 14, rear.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HERMAN SCHWIOKART, a citizen'of the United States, and a resident of Bropklyn, county of Kings, and State of New York, have invented. certain new and useful Improvements in Block-Holders for Fireproof Construction, of which the following is a specification. i
The object of this invention is to facilitate the building of fireproof structures, such'as elevator shafts, stairway inclosures andflues, where concrete or plaster blocks or bricks are used.
The usual construction is to place the blocks on edge onto each other crossing the joints at the corners.
This invention enables the builder to 10-- cate the blocks accurately at the corners of the structure and erect them more securely and in less time than is now done.
In the accompanying drawing the figure is a perspective view of the corner of a building showing my improved device in position to receive the corner blocks.
In said drawing the reference letter A denotes my improved block holder as a whole, formed preferably of sheet metal, and positioned upon the corner blocks S, S, of the structure ready to receive and position similar blocks placed thereupon. Said block holder is slotted at D, a portion of the material removed thereby being used to form the downturned tongues C, which latter extend into the upturned tongues B, as
7 shown, the two being thus'capable of being bent in opposite directions simultaneously, whereby they will always be in alinement.
With the tongues 0 turned at a right angle to the body part of the holder A the upturned tongues B-will necessarily also lie at a right angle thereto, and will thus act as guides for the blocks laid thereon-and will bring them in perfect alinement' with the underlying blocks S, S.'
At E are shown pins which may be driven through perforations in the block holder A a and into the underlying blocks S, S to hold the block holder A in place while placing blocks thereupon.
The slots D in the blockholder are made large so that a body of the cement or mortar will fill therein to afford a firm union between the blocks.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and-desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A metal block holder for building conof the plate removed in recessing the same, said tongues bemg connected so as to bebent simultaneously and to remain in alinemont.
