Description

@met (iti, ire.-
G. H. KNAPP, OF LAWBENCEVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA.
Letters` Patent No. 98,275, dated December 28, 1869.y x
IMPRQVEMENT IN PULLEYBI-JOCKS The Schedule xefen'ed to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it mag/.concern Beit known that I, C. H. KNAPP, of Lawrenceville, in the county of Tioga, and State of Pennsylvania,
have invented a new and uset'nl Improvementin Pulley- Blocks, and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the saine, reference being` had to the accompanying drawings, forming part ot' this specification.
This invention relates to improvements in pulleyblocks; and consists vin an improved construction of divided blocks, for being automatically opened by blocks on the rope for discharging the same, when the weight is raised to the required height for allowing the latter to fall in a lateral direction, as in elevating hay and delivering over the mow or ou the top of the stack.
Figure. 1 represents a side elevation of my improved block, and l Figure 2 is a section of the same, taken on -the line x :z: ot' tig. 1.
p Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The block is made in two parts A, dividedccntrally.
in theplane of the centre of the pulley, which is also made in two parts, B, and similarly divided.
The said parts A ofthe block are jointed, at C, 'to
4a suspending-stock, D, and the twoparts of the pulley are jonrnaled on the stud-pins E, pro ]'ecting from the inner faces ofthe two parts ofthe block.
F is a tripping-clamp, journaled in brackets G, pro jet-ting from the side of the stock above the periphery ofthe block and pulley.
. This clamp has two arms H, which, when it hangs down in the lowermost position, take't-he two parts of the block between them and .hold thenl firmly together, so that the rope will work over them properly to raise the weight.
The. lower end of this clamp rests so near the rope* I that a block, K, thereon, being drawn upon the wheel, will raise the clamp and disconnect the arms H from the block, and allow the latter, together with the pulley, to ope'n and discharge the rope.
L is a spring, attached to the stock D above the end of the clamp, and arranged to bear on the inclined face M, when the clamp is down, and hold it in position for holding the two parts ot' the block together; and when the clamp is up, it bears on the face N thereof, and holds it up.
The arms H may he made a part of the lever F, by
casting together with it, and the pins E maybe either
