APPARATUS FOR ELEVATING- HAY.
- The Schedule referred to iu these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom 'it ma/y concern invented a new and improved Hay-Elevating Apparatus; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had tothe accompanying drawings, forming part of this specication.
This invention relates to improvements in hoistingapparatus, for elevating hay and delivering it on to the bay; and consists of a tackle-b1ock, so formed that when the fork, in its upward movement, arrives at the said block, 'om which it is suspended, the latter will become detached from its suspending-device, and permit the'load to iall in a lateral direction upon the bay, as hereinafter more fully specified.
The drawing represents a sectional elevation of my improved apparatus.
The present method of delivering the hay upon the bay, after it has been elevated, requires the employment of a rail or rope ator near the top of the building, whereon the suspending-pulley may be drawn over the bay after the hay has been elevated.
Or, in other cases, the suspending-pulley is hung over the bay, and the load drawn up by the side thereof, and allowed to swing back after rising above the ledge.
The last-mentioned plan is objectionable, for the, reason that it requires greater power to elevate the hay; and the former lis too expensive, and diiiicult to change from place to place, as is frequently required.
.I propose to employ a tackle-block, constructed of two parts A and B, to be suspended over the load, and capable of separation, to allow the fork, with its load, to be delivered over the bay, by the action of the elevating-rope O, which, after passing through the said block d, passes through an ordinary tackleblock, secured to the building at the opposite side of the hay.
The part A, of my improved block, is permanently suspended over the load, and provided with a springcatch, D, which hooks under a lip, E, of the part B, and holds the two together until the enlarged part or knot of the rope, by which the fork is secured, arrives under the pendent end F of the spring-catch, and detaches it from the lip E, allowing the rope O to draw it over the bay.
G represents a small cord, attached to the part B', and working over a pulley, H, on the part A, by whichI the said part B may be drawn back and engaged with the part A, after the hay has beenl discharged from the fork.
The rope G may be operated by hand, or it may be made self-acting, by the application of a weight to it.
Having thus described my invention,
I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The tackle-block, constructed of two parts, A B,
Athe latter capable of being self-actingly detached or attached, substantially as specied.
2. The spring-latch and'lip E, combined with the block A B, substantially as specified.
3. The pulley H and cord G, combined With`the block A B, substantially as specified.
