JAMES GREGORY, OF BURNLEY, ENGLAND, ASSIGNOR TO THE FIRM OF PLATT BROS. 86 CO. LIMITED, 0F HARTFORD WORKS, OLDHAM, ENGLAND.
GUARD FOR SPINNING AND DOUBLING FRAMES.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES GREGORY, residing at Burnley, in the county of Lancaster, England, have invented 21. Guard for Spinning and Doubling Frames, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in fences or guards, applicable to the tin rollers of spinning or doubling machines and having for its purposes to prevent accidents to operatives and to provide for the ready assemblage of the driving bands.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings wherein Figure 1 is an end elevation of a ring spinning frame equipped with a fence or guard in accordance with the resent invention; Fig. 2 is an enlarged end elevation of the fence or guard; Fig. 3 is a similar view showing an element of the fence or guard when the latter is of sectional construction; Fig. 4 is a side elevation showing the relation of the elements of a sectional fence or guard.
Similar characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views.
Referring to Fig. l, the guard or fence is shown at A and embodies a longitudinal bar, web, or projection in juxtaposition to the tin rollers. The guard or fence is so constructed as to prevent the possibility of the trapping of the operatives fingers between the tin rollers, and it is so mounted as to be capable of oscillation to the right or to the left to afford clearances in order that the driving bands may be readily assembled. The bar, web or projection aforesaid is, in the example shown, provided on a hollow tubular body, the end portions of which are j ournaled in brackets B, the latter being carried by a cross bar which is bolted to the usual bracket bearings of the tin rollers E. For oscillating the guard any desired means may be employed. The means shown includes an arm F which projects downwardly from the hollow tubular body aforesaid. The boss of this arm is passed through the opening in the adjoining bracket 13, and is secured to the tubular body of the Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed January 4, 1910.
Patented Jan. 24;, 1911.
Serial No. 536,411.
guard A. The arm F is pivoted to an actuating lever Gr, operable by hand, and provided with notches D which rest in a slotted bracket C fixed to the frame of the machine, when the guard is moved to guide the loose end of the spindle band in the required direction.
A practical and serviceable construction of guard is shown by way of example, in detail in Figs. 2, 3 and 4. 111 this construction a section of sheet metal is bent into tubular form and at its mutually adjacent edges two projecting leaves or flanges H and H- are provided. These are pressed together and the end of one is bent to overlap the other, to form the projection, bar or web aforesaid. This guard, instead of being of a continuous length, may be of sectional construction in which case joined sections K and L are employed. The section L has no peculiarities but the section K is provided with a slot K coincident with the bar or web and of about an inch and a half in length. When the sections are joined the web or bar of the section L is engaged in the slot K until it abuts the bar or .web of the section K, and the end of the tubular portion of the section L is telescopically fitted in the adjacent end of the section K.
Having fully described my invention, I claim:
1. The combination with the tin rollers of ring spinning and doubling frames of a fence or guard disposed longitudinally of the rollers in intermediate juxtaposition thereto and mounted for movement toward or away from either of the rollers.
2. The combination with the tin rollers of ring spinning and doubling frames of a fence or guard disposed longitudinally of the rollers in juxtaposition thereto and comprising a tubular body having a bar or web projecting therefrom, and brackets in which the ends of the tubular body are journaled.
3. The combination wit-h the tin rollers of ring spinning and doubling frames of a fence or guard disposed longitudinally of the rollers in juxtaposition thereto and comprising a tubular body having a bar or web projecting therefrom, brackets in which the ends of the tubular body are journaled, an name to this my specification in the presence arm projefisting from the tubular body and of tWo subscribing Witnesses. I secured t ereto, a lever connected to the arm and provided With a notched end and a JAMES Y slotted bracket through Which the notched Wit end of the lever extends. W I
In testimony whereof, I have signed my F. RICHMOND
